Meditation origin: Neuroscience


Neuroscience is the study of the brain. Mental activity involves neural activity, and repeated activity changes neural structure. Meditation is increasingly recognized by neuroscientists as a means to alter the structure and function of the brain; a phenomenon called brain plasticity. Recent neuroscientific research and brain imaging technology suggests that regular meditation can strengthen functions of the brain that control attention, calm the stress response, increase positive emotions, strengthen the immune system and even protect our DNA.
