Middle of the night meditation.
You didn't choose it.
You don't deserve it.
But here we are,
Awake in the middle of the night.
I'm with you now.
So are thousands of others across the planet.
So let's just stay lying down,
Just getting comfortable,
And now really noticing the bed beneath your body.
Feeling its support of your limbs.
Your head cradled by your pillow,
Fully supported.
Knowing that if you need to move at any time to make yourself more comfortable,
You just do so.
You're fully in charge.
Then again,
Connecting your mind to the feeling of your weight being fully,
100% supported by your bed.
Your body limp like a worn coat that's been thrown across the bed.
You've done everything you can,
As best you can in the day prior.
You'll likely do the same in the day to come,
Just like that trusty coat.
So now just letting yourself be supported by the comfort of your bed,
Your pillow,
Your home,
Just letting it happen.
Letting it sink in into your bones,
Into your brain.
You've done everything you can.
There's nothing else to do right now except allow your bed,
Your home,
Everything you've worked for to just do its job for you now.
Supporting you.
You're just feeling that support.
For now you're just that worn coat that's been tossed across the bed.
You've done your job and for now it's just rest.
Getting into the support of the bed,
The pillow,
The warmth or coolness of the blankets,
The safety of your home.
Letting all of that support you now.
You're not alone in this,
Not by a long shot.
Feeling the support.
You're now just noticing all the sounds that are around you now,
Subtle night sounds,
Air flowing through vents or the fan,
Some traffic or maybe just the hush of your home.
Just letting yourself listen.
Subtle sounds that only you are getting to hear in this moment.
Sounds that are neglected and ignored in the busyness of the day.
These subtle special sounds of your home at night,
At rest.
These are the sounds of safety,
The safety of your home.
Much different sounds if you weren't safe right now.
This hush,
These softer nighttime sounds,
These are the sounds of almost nothing happening.
The special sounds of your particular home filled with your particular group of children or animals or maybe just you.
You being held and supported amidst the sounds of nothing much going on.
Just hearing them,
Letting you know you're safe right now.
This is important to your brain,
Letting these sounds of safety just soak into your brain.
Allowing stress to be turned off.
No fires that need putting out,
Nothing that needs doing right now.
You've done your job.
Now just letting yourself rest in the pause between days.
Relaxing into this pause,
Resting in this necessary pause in life.
Letting yourself hear the safety of your home all around you,
Feeling,
Hearing that support.
Allowing your brain to let go.
Maybe my voice is soothing or maybe you can start to notice the space between my words.
The softness,
The silence.
Like seeing the space between the branches of the tree instead of just the branches.
The space between the words.
The silence between the sounds of my voice,
Letting it all flow together.
Just the flow of this nighttime pause,
Like the flow of the breath.
The space between the branches of the tree.
Just letting everything flow together now.
Your body in the bed.
The sounds and the space between the sounds.
The worn coat in the branches of the trees.
Just letting everything be.
Nothing that needs doing.
Even letting the breath breathe you.
Feeling together with the sounds,
The safety,
The bed beneath you,
The worn coat in the branches of the trees.
Feeling the bed beneath your body.
Feeling its support of your limbs.
Your head softly held by the pillow.
Your weight fully supported by your bed.
Your body limp,
Just a worn coat thrown across the bed.
You've done everything you can,
Just like that trusty coat.
Letting yourself be supported by the comfort of your bed,
