Hello,
I'm Don Joseph Goey,
The author of the book The End of Stress and the Insight Timer course The Science of Ending Stress.
You know,
Neuroscience tells us that success in life is all about the state of our brain,
And the state of our brain is all about our state of mind.
The more positive and peaceful your experience becomes,
The more intelligence your brain taps and even grows.
So here is an exercise to assist you in accentuating the positive in your life.
Please don't do this exercise while driving or using machinery.
I want to invite you to remember a time that perhaps lasted a short time,
When nothing came to interrupt your peace of mind.
Perhaps you were on a beach,
Or walking across a meadow,
Or with people you love,
Or perhaps you were meditating,
And suddenly you felt all is well,
And nothing was in doubt.
Relive that moment.
Make that moment now.
And if you can't remember such a moment,
Imagine it.
Imagine how quiet and at ease your mind becomes.
How expansive you feel.
How clear and present you are in that moment.
In the quiet of the present moment,
The false image of ourselves fades.
The image of a threatening world fades.
The judgments we make and project onto other people and events fade.
Our fear of failure fades.
And what takes its place is the happiness we experience when we are not afraid of anything,
Which is peace,
Which is love.
Allow that peace and love to arise in you,
And surrender to it.
One way you can wire your brain for positive emotional states is simply by marking the moment whenever an experience opens you up in some way.
It might be when the beauty of nature captures your attention and lifts your heart.
Or it might be this spaciousness and peace you feel during meditation or prayer.
Or it might be when your passion is ignited,
Or the good feeling you get when you relax after accomplishing something.
It could be as simple as the joy of watching a child at play.
Whenever a moment occurs that expands or elevates or deepens your experience,
Whatever it is,
For whatever reason,
Mark the moment.
Open your heart to that moment and tell your brain,
This moment is important.
When you mark the moment in this way,
Your brain creates a synapse to hold the experience.
The more you mark positive moments,
The stronger the synapse becomes,
Making feelings of joy,
Peace and connection more frequent,
More vivid,
And longer lasting.
Thank you.
