This is a poetic practice about locating, healing & transforming emotional pain. We start with 10 minutes of talking about where pain is located & how to channel it into creative energy - & then there's a 12-minute, guided visualization that focusses on cleansing pain from the emotional body. We end with a few introspective questions about who we would be without our pain. This meditation is set with different music expressions to create an experience for the listener & I hope it serves you.

Welcome,

Dear one,

To this experiential meditation series that inspires us to seek less from the external world and cultivate more of what we need from within.

Today we will journey inwards toward our need to heal by remembering the power we already hold within that not only allows us to be present with our pain,

But channels that suffering into soul nourishing and creative energy.

Dear soul,

What is it you wish to make whole that is not already complete?

Part of you is missing,

That is not exactly where it needs to be.

When you seek to plaster over your worn and weary wounds,

You forget that they are where the surface has thinned out to help you connect to the deepest part of your being.

Emotional pain is not vulnerability,

It is access.

Where you seek to make perfect,

You forget that you are the embodiment of evolution,

From stardust to spirit,

Having only thrived through a series of beautiful imperfections.

Where is this emotional pain located?

Has it a home?

Or is it a hurt hermit showing up every time you dare smile?

Has it set up camp and decorated your mind with its collection of distasteful collectibles?

Or is it a shadow,

A cowardly pain hiding in those places you'd rather not turn to face?

The location of this pain,

This incompleteness,

Where is it?

Does it reside in the heart?

It cannot live in the spiritual heart for surely it would be engulfed by the light that annihilates through unconditional love.

So it must be located in the physical heart.

That every cell in your body,

Every ligament,

Tissue and every organ regenerates itself,

An entirely new body is woken up to every few years.

Surely this pain would be extracted through this natural process of restoration and forgiveness.

The bones are what take longest to repair.

Ten long years.

So perhaps that pain embedded itself into your marrow,

Perhaps that is where it resides.

Or perhaps it holds itself as an energy,

In which case it has nestled itself up in the fluffed,

In the mind,

And is kept alive with the crumbs of self-doubt and the memories of days long gone.

But if you were to look at the nature of memory,

You would understand that when you believe you are remembering an event from the past,

You are in fact remembering the last time you remembered it.

A sort of neurological Chinese whisper.

A psychological printing press with too little ink to transfer the original image.

But your pain feels real.

It feels very present.

I know.

And what beauty your physical body holds in being able to convey energetic pain to you.

How incredible it is that your emotional wounds are able to call for help so that they may have a moment of your time to find peace,

To find closure.

For as much as you desire relief,

So does your suffering wish not to live forever as pain.

It wants freedom as much as you do,

To be released,

To be cleansed,

And to be able to transform into something new.

And that is why you are called into a state of healing,

To remember your ability to transform all of life's hardships into fuel,

Into fire,

Into a burning,

Into loving yourself through it even more.

It is what the richest of soils,

The peaty,

Darkest earths are made from.

For without pain,

There lay only barren fields within the psych,

A sun-burnt and parched inner landscape that holds no shrub,

No mountain cave,

No meandering stream to where you can stop and rest for a while.

It is within this call for rest and restoration that the emotional body screams loudest.

It holds you hostage in physical ailments,

Raised shoulders,

Clenched fists,

Tightened jaws.

Until you listen to it,

Tend to it,

And free it.

There comes a time in your life where you will be asked to make a decision about your future life.

Whether you want to stay bittered by the pain of the past,

Or not.

Those broken dreams,

Those broken hearts,

Those sudden griefs,

Those soured words,

Those things you saw that should never have been seen,

Those things that were said that should never have been said.

Your body has accumulated the debris,

And it is time now to ask yourself how you want to step forward in your life.

If your intention is to make goodness from what you have been given,

Then let's break up that pain.

Let's use it to create something good from it,

To help others with it.

Let's imagine for a moment that your pain is a well-worn chair.

That chair is the one you fall into at the end of the day,

And sometimes wake to in the middle of the night.

A chair with the creases that knows your body,

That keeps your imprint in its upholstery,

Its wooden legs bowing outwards with its heavy burden.

It has a certain comfort,

Because you know it so well,

And sometimes it feels like the only certainty you can rely on.

But it's time to redecorate this room of resistance within your mind.

Let's tear out the fibre and the foam from the seat stuffing and make a bear for a child with the leftover fabric.

Let's pull out the coil springs,

Put a star on the top and hang it from our Christmas tree.

Let's cut out the webbing and make belts for hanging flowers,

Knock the legs off its frame and make shelves for our photo frames,

And burn the rest to keep us warm until only the brass nail studs remain dulled in its ashes.

Pain is energy.

Release it through creative work and you will become a conduit for holistic healing to express itself through.

Let us now remember our innate ability to self-heal,

To hold ourselves in presence,

To cleanse ourselves from emotional suffering,

And to channel that energy into something good.

I will reference the physical body,

The emotional body and the spiritual body in this meditation.

These are the three bodies we use to live our life in.

Our emotional body holds all our joys,

Our sufferings,

Desires,

Our pasts.

It is our feeling body and it is where our emotional pain resides.

Sit comfortably.

Find a position that allows you to rest in alertness with a strong spine and loose limbs.

Close your eyes now.

Allow yourself to remember this familiar feeling of coming back to yourself,

Back to your true nature,

Back to your most essential self.

Connect to your breath by becoming aware of it in your body.

Try not to control it but deepen your awareness of it.

Linger in that moment.

The breath turns from an outward breath to an inward one.

And when your lungs have fully inhaled,

Focus on the moment just before releasing it again.

Breathe deeper into any discomforts you have,

Loosening the chest,

Giving it space,

Folding back your shoulders a little,

Lifting your face upward slightly.

Breathe into this unfolding of your body.

Your physical body remembers this act of connecting with its spiritual and emotional partner.

It remembers this unity of becoming one under the power of awareness.

It knows this is the act that pulls all of you into alignment.

The physical body,

The emotional body,

And the spiritual body in unity.

Feel this oneness,

Connected together by your breath,

All of you fully present in this moment.

We will now cleanse our emotional body by separating our physical and spiritual bodies from this moment.

Try and feel your emotional body now.

All the feelings you have,

The beliefs you hold,

Your preferences,

Your discomforts,

Your traumas,

Your joys,

Everything that fills you with emotion.

Let the feelings that create pain and resistance in your life come to the surface.

Simply sense as much of their collective energy as you can.

Let their restricting presence,

Their weight,

Their tightness and smallness be felt within your body.

Simply be with this energy,

Breathing into its presence,

Holding it lightly,

Rocking it within your body by your breath.

Convey the following words to your own body.

Try and feel these words permeate from your skin's surface to your bones' marrow.

I feel your pain.

I know you are here.

It's okay.

I'm here for you.

I forgive you.

I forgive those who caused you and I forgive myself for not being able to let you go.

But you are free now.

You are cleansed and if you shall ever return I will recognize that you long to be expressed as goodness through art,

Through writing,

Through song,

Through dance,

Through child raising,

Through slow walking,

Through love.

I see you pain.

I see you with the eyes of love and you are free.

Now imagine a small flickering light peeping at the bottom of your toes.

This white,

Pure,

Bright and cooling light slowly seeps through your feet,

Around your ankles,

Climbing up your calves,

Around your thighs,

Over your hips,

Across your belly,

Reaching the heart and burning brighter.

It's almost blinding.

It continues across your throat,

Your jaw,

Up to your cheekbones,

Your eyelashes,

Your hairline,

To the crown of your head.

It now drips back down into your skull,

Slowly melting down your spine,

Expanding around your rib cage,

Into your pelvis,

Your hip bones,

Your thigh bones,

Your shin bones,

Your ankles,

Your feet bones,

And eventually through your toes.

Your body is engulfed in healing light,

All the way through from skin to marrow.

This emotional body healing itself like the physical body repairing itself,

Mending itself,

Leaving only goodness,

Wholeness and nourishing emotions that serve your highest self.

Breathe for a while in this bright light.

Bathe it with your breath.

Allow your physical and spiritual body to return to you now.

Create that unity again through letting go of the mind and focusing upon your heart.

Feel it in your chest.

Your spiritual heart unconditionally loving you,

And your physical one pumping life throughout your body,

And your emotional one burning in gratitude for the time you took to be with yourself today.

Take a last few breaths and when you feel ready you may open your eyes.

Who are you without your pain?

How does it feel to be unburdened for just a moment?

Relative?

Liberated?

To some the idea of pain not belonging to them,

But simply being a part of them,

Is a healing.

To others the emotional body being a separate state from their physical and spiritual one is enough to open a door into compassionate detachment.

To most knowing pain can hold some worthy energy might just hold a healing in itself,

For it is when this pain is transmuted that we truly become the masters of our own destiny.

From today let what hurts you sit lightly upon your skin.

Let it not reach your bones,

But just let it rest softly for a moment,

And then ask it to leave again.

With practice you allow yourself to become loosely woven,

Airy and anything you wish not to affect your energy is able to pass through without it ever making a home within.

Let us bow from now on that every time we are reminded of our woundedness that we start to believe in our wholeness more.

Thank you for being here.

May you journey onwards in remembrance of your innate ability to self-heal and in lightness for the unburdening you have created within yourself today.
