Living And Leading With Mindful Attitude

With Derek Hill

You've either got a "good attitude" or a "bad attitude". Or so we might have heard all our lives! But attitudes especially 'Mindfulness Attitudes' are far from binary ways to label our behavior. Over the next 5 days, we’ll explore these deeply meaningful foundations of Mindfulness. And how they positively impact our lives, work, and relationships. And through everyday stories and practical scenarios, we'll share techniques, mediation, and moments of insight to bring them to life. Together we'll: - Introduce the attitudes and their crucial role in living, interacting, and working more mindfully - Set intentions and explore the first 3 attitudes of Mindfulness and how you can integrate them into your life - Share practices and meditations you can return to daily to embody them. This will be a course and series you can turn in if you want: - Relatable insight into the Attitudes of Mindfulness and how they can support you, loved ones, or those you lead. - Inspiring ways to bring more meaning, vitality, and mindful connection in your life - Simple and repeatable meditations, to rewire your brain for healthier habits We’ll learn to label-less. When we are “Living and Leading with a Mindful Attitude" I look forward to meeting you on Day 1.

Meet your Teacher

Derek Hill believes in creating opportunities for genuine connection, with ourselves, nature, and each other. Supporting people to look inwardly, with self-compassion - helping them uncover their inner resources for self-support and purposeful direction in life. He is a mindfulness and compassion teacher, speaker, and coach, accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). He teaches 4 to 8-week courses, including Jon Kabat-Zinn's gold standard "Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction." He works with individuals, groups, and organizations to inspire greater happiness, health, and human connection in life and work. He has coached and mentored people for 20 years in high-stress corporate environments, as well as purpose-driven ‘technology for good’ organizations like JustGiving and Farewill, where he spent many wonderful years working with not-for-profit organizations. Derek is sincerely committed to helping others realize their potential, creativity, and fundamental connection to self, others, and the universe. Derek moved to London from his hometown in Dublin. His early life in Ireland colored so much of what he had learned throughout life. Having graduated in creative writing, he always found great inspiration in the books of others, whether fictional, philosophical, or those challenging conventions. Throughout his professional career, where he enjoyed the highs and lows of working abroad, growing businesses, and making a purposeful impact, there was always a pull toward the traditions and philosophies, which inspire his work today. A few life-changing events and an ever-growing personal commitment to meditation practice, finally nudged him to retrain as a mindfulness and compassion teacher, picking up a CPCAB-accredited Level 4 qualification, as well as training to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Derek then redesigned his life around a passion and purpose, so he could sustainably support his health and well-being and that of his family. He founded his company Waking Waves to make this possible and is now on his mindful mission to share the benefits of mindfulness and compassion with others, so they can too!"

Lesson 1

An Introduction With Attitude

Before we introduce the attitudes of Mindfulness, we take a moment to reflect on how 'attitudes' are perceived. And how from an early age we learn to see them in a binary way - good or bad. We then define 'Mindfulness' before sharing how these non-binary and deeply meaningful foundational attitudes relate to our life, work, and relationships. Setting the scene for the days to come.

Lesson 2

Setting Our Mindful Intention

To set a purposeful sense of direction for this course and series, we'll share a mindful intention-setting practice. Grounding in the feet and hands first to create some calm and space, so the intentions we need, arise.

Lesson 3

Start Fresh With A Beginner's Mind

Today we meet the first of our mindfulness attitudes - an invitation to view experiences old and new with fresh eyes, curiosity, and wonder. With a beginner's mind. We'll share examples of how this powerful practice can support leaders to learn and problem-solve. And how parents and caregivers can let go of their 'expert minds' and foster trusting and nurturing relationships with younger people or those less experienced. Opening up space for creativity and learning. Rewiring our brains for healthy growth. Then end with a breathing practice, reflecting on moments to bring a Beginner's Mind.

Lesson 4

Witness The Power Of Non-Judgement

We can't practice mindfulness without encountering Non-Judgement - in meditation, conversation, or reflection. So today, we'll reflect on some of the everyday situations and working scenarios where we need it most. Ending with a short meditation practice paying close attention to judgement, labelling, and the many feelings and emotions that arise. Practicing non-judgment together to get into a mindfully responsive habit.

Lesson 5

Become Less Reactive By Accepting More

Today we take on the challenging attitude of Acceptance. And choosing a scenario we do not wish to accept (like illness or injury), take a step-by-step approach to bring mindful acceptance. We'll then share some familiar workplace scenarios like getting criticism, tough feedback, or job loss - looking at how the same steps can be applied. To close, we recognize that 'Acceptance' takes time. So together we start to build a habit with an inquiring and reflective Acceptance meditation.
