Understanding The Yin-Yang Language

With Helen Hansen

Unpacking the meaning of the ancient Chinese yin-yang symbol which holds the wisdom of universal laws and spiritual principles. We look at the 8 foundational archetypal trigrams expressing the qualities of yin-yang and how this is expressed in the greater world and in one's own personal life. We discuss how yin-yang shows up in the physical body. What symptoms are yin and which are yang; how the yin-yang meridians operate and what do yin emotions feel like versus yang emotions. Understanding the language of yin-yang assists us with greater awareness of the self, both ours and of the other. Awareness leads to compassion, forgiveness, gratitude and the vibrations of a nourishing and nurturing nature.

Lesson 1

The Interconnection Of Life

Yin-Yang philosophy guides us to live in harmony with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us as its purpose is to bring balance between light and dark, night and day, waking and sleeping, winter and summer, interior and exterior, to name a few. Homeostasis is one of the foundational principles of the yin-yang system. In this lesson, we notice the similarities between the binary code, DNA, and yin-yang. We discuss the system of yin yang in the i-Ching, 'Book of Changes'. We look at the yin and yang meridians within the body as well as the different symptoms of yin quality versus yang quality. This shows us how yin-yang is used as a diagnostic tool in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Lesson 2

The Foundational Archetypal Language Of Yin-Yang

In this lesson, we look at the 8 primary trigrams of the yin-yang language. We discuss the form representation of each trigram, its symbology, and what it means in nature, through experiences and how it shows up in everyday life. The ever-changing yin into yang and yang into yin is unpacked and displayed visually in the movement within the trigrams. You will also be guided to consider the individual trigrams within your own life.
