This short story is about self-betrayal. Promises were made but never kept. Will time run out? This is part of a series of short stories depicting other archetypal states such as the victim child, wounded child, and critic. Stories have a natural manner of triggering responses within, heightening and deepening our self-awareness. Over time, such self-awareness leads to self-healing. To delve deep into the above-mentioned archetypes take a look at the courses I have available for you, 'Archetypal Psychology' and 'More Archetypal Psychology'.

Transcript

There is a man who is an alcoholic.

He knows he must stop drinking,

Yet he continues to pour liquor down his throat,

Promising himself that when he finishes this bottle,

He will not open another.

Eventually,

He dies from a heart attack.

Doctors will say he died from heart and liver failure,

But what really quickened his death was his inability to be honest with himself.

This act of betrayal,

Day after day,

Was his way of handing his power over,

Over to the shadow of his saboteur,

The destroyer.

He could have faced his fear,

Faced his self-sabotaging behavior,

But instead he chose to ignore it.

The shadow of his destroyer was so good at negotiating,

He let it,

And so fate took over and erected his destiny.

Wow - this is the Universe coming through with a message for me. Thank you for framing this message through a short story. It introduced two new concepts I hadn't understood before - the Shadow, Destroyer, and how Fate steps in. Thank you for sharing this lesson through your wisdom.

Iโ€™m glad to have listened, it really resonated with me. Self-sabotage, giving up my power, making decisions by not making decisionsโ€ฆ the journey has been to long. Itโ€™s time I meet my saboteur.

Deceptively simple yet so very powerful. The saboteur is an insidious negotiator. Thank you.

Good story. Iโ€™ve known a few alcoholics who have died awful deaths. One of them had a sister who was murdered years ago and he could never get over that. I donโ€™t know if he did counselling for it, but it was so sad and I donโ€™t blame him at all for self-sabotaging, but I wish I had asked him if he was getting some help for himself ๐Ÿ˜ž Are you able to make a longer truck also about different types of self sabotaging and what people can do to stop? I self sabotage in many ways, but my biggest method is by going to bed way too late which messes up my circadian rhythm and my health and I know all the science of this, but I still havenโ€™t been able to stop! But I keep trying! And my new attempt is affirmations before bed!!๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™
