You Are Worthy Of Love: Healing From Trauma

With Orit Krug

No matter how many times we tell ourselves, “I am worthy of love,” the trauma of rejection and abandonment speaks much louder. Trauma tells us that nobody could possibly love us, even when we're already with a loving, supportive, and committed partner. Trauma tells us that ALL relationships end in hurt. It makes us do “crazy” things like question acts of love, make up stories in our head about how we’ll get hurt, and wait every minute of every day for things to finally fall apart. Just so we can end the discomfort of not knowing and say, “See! I knew I’d get hurt.” If this sounds like you: This is NOT your fault and you are not broken. You may observe yourself repeatedly sabotaging relationships and pushing away the ones you love; but no matter how much intellectual awareness you have, your body always wins. Your body remembers the trauma and your nervous system reacts before you even have a moment to think about responding in a different way. This is what your survival system believes it needs to do to keep you alive, even when there’s no real threat in your relationship. None of this is a reflection of your character. This is trauma ruling your life and ability to love. In this course, you’ll learn the basic neurophysiology of how trauma gets stored in your body, how to rewire your nervous system, and what it’ll take to create healthy relationship patterns in a way that lasts. The information and movement-based experiences provided in this course will bring you a new level of clarity and relief, even if you’ve already been on a healing journey for years. Note: This course is not suitable for anyone trying to repair toxic or abusive relationships. The content is primarily designed for people who are in or want to be in healthy relationships.

Lesson 1

How Trauma Gets Stored In The Nervous System

Let’s break down the basic neurophysiology of how trauma gets stored in your nervous system. We’ll be going over essential scientific-based information without getting lost in complex terminology. You’ll gain an understanding of how your brain and body store trauma memories, how trauma hijacks your nervous system, and why traditional therapies are not designed or effective to heal trauma from the nervous system. This lesson will give you deep clarity and understanding that you are not broken; you just haven’t healed in a neurophysiologically correct way.. yet!

Lesson 2

Identify Your Dominant Nervous System Response

Do you tend to react in fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown? Today, you’ll learn the scientific explanation behind each of these survival responses and identify your dominant nervous system response. Based on your dominant response, you’ll gain insight into the level of danger your nervous system believes it will experience in different relationships and situations. It may seem irrational to get into your car and leave the house just because your partner forgot to pick up your favorite cheese from the supermarket; however, your nervous system believes that it’s a real threat to your life and that there’s no other choice but to leave. We’ll also do a gentle movement-based experience to allow your body to confirm what your mind suspects is your dominant response.

Lesson 3

How To Rewire Your Nervous System For Love

In order to have healthy relationships after trauma, you must rewire your nervous system from fear to love. We’ll identify the signs that your nervous system is currently wired for fear and protection, and the exact steps that you’ll need to take in order to expand your window of tolerance and rewire your nervous system for healthy, lasting love, and intimacy. You’ll also learn the four essential elements to achieve a sustainable nervous system rewiring, and pinpoint which step you may have been missing on your journey.

Lesson 4

How Trauma Gets Stored In The Physical Body

Many people who rewire their nervous system are still stuck in the same unhealthy relationship patterns, no matter how hard they try to talk themselves into behaving in a different way. This is because they never released the trauma stored in their physical bodies, which makes them impulsively repeat unwanted behaviors. In today’s lesson, we will first go over the theory behind how trauma gets stored in the body. Then, I’ll guide you through a gentle body-based exploration to feel how trauma has impacted your physical body. The aim of this session is to help you sense if there’s unresolved trauma in your body (without triggering it) so that you know how to best move forward to heal it.

Lesson 5

How Your Body Gets Stuck In Unhealthy Relationship Patterns

Now that you understand how trauma gets stored in the physical body, you are ready to learn how the body gets physically stuck in patterns of sabotaging, overreacting, and pushing away the ones we love. In today’s lesson, we’ll use gentle guided movement to identify the biggest unhealthy pattern that is stuck in your body and how you can move through it without putting force or pressure to resolve it.

Lesson 9

Healthy Relationships: Express Healthy Anger & Be Assertive

Healthy relationship patterns are not just about softness and vulnerability. It’s also important to feel empowered and express anger in a healthy, calm way. In a healthy relationship, you must speak up for what you need, even if it feels scary. In today’s audio, I’ll guide you through gentle movement, so that you can tangibly experience how your body avoids being assertive. That way, you can learn a new, comfortable way to be heard and seen in all of your relationships.

This 'course' is almost entirely composed of Orit telling you firstly how you've been doing it wrong, and then telling you how you must, repeat must, do it in future. With her, apparently. What rot. There are many ways to release trauma from the body and many great teachers out there who do not try to scare you into working with them. Definitely do not recommend.

This course is more suitable for people who can afford to sign up for the mentor's full fledged program later. While I am grateful for learning some new concepts and gaining some personal insights, and while I do see the potential benefits of this practice, I found the amount of time spent promoting the program disproportionate to the time spent guiding us through movement exercises or giving us clarity on how the practice works. There was repeated emphasis on needing to be in a therapeutic relationship with a mentor and on the fact that it is the *only* way to heal from trauma. So my take away is that I am doomed to repeat my self-sabotaging patterns forever because I cannot afford to sign up for the actual program.

I was disappointed with this course. Although the ideas are helpful, there was a repetitive pattern of messages that in order to heal, we needed to take therapy sessions with her, like a sales pitch. I understand that courses on Insight Timer are not meant to be therapy. But to be repeatedly reminded we needed her individual sessions was a put off for me.
