Ralph De La Rosa was a trauma-focused psychotherapist, “rogue” meditation teacher, and internationally published author whose work blended fierce honesty with deep compassion. His latest book, Don’t Tell Me to Relax: Emotional Resilience for the Age of Rage, Feels, and Freak Outs (Shambhala Publications), invites readers to meet their pain with courage and curiosity, a message that remains timeless. Meditation first entered Ralph’s life in 1996; by 2008 he was sharing those practices with others, drawing on his personal journey as a PTSD and heroin-addiction survivor. Students remember him for turning hard-won wisdom into practical tools for healing and growth. Outside the classroom, Ralph was endlessly inspired by nature and could often be found in the great outdoors. Though he has passed, Ralph’s teachings, rooted in resilience, authenticity, and heartfelt humanity, continue to guide and comfort all who encounter them.
