Cognitive Detours: Mind-Centered Paths To Peace

With Alice Langholt

This course teaches rapid cognitive "games" designed to hijack the brain's worry circuits and reroute your focus toward immediate calm. We bypass lengthy emotional analysis and utilize quick, intentional mental shifts, or "detours," to disrupt the loop of anxiety. You will learn two powerful tools accessible anywhere, without external cues. First, the Name-Chain Game uses a high-focus task to overload your working memory. This acts as an instant "pattern interrupt," preventing stress narratives from running simultaneously. The second tool, Emotional Distancing, leverages self-talk reframing. By processing stressors in the third person (using your name), you create powerful psychological distance, which immediately reduces emotional intensity. The core benefit is gaining profound, on-demand mastery over your internal dialogue and achieving self-regulation. These covert techniques allow you to switch from a mind-trap to a calm-track in minutes. Guided practices are included in each lesson.

Lesson 1

The Name Chain Game

The most powerful way to stop a worry spiral is to give the brain a high-focus task that requires its working memory. This cognitive load acts as a 'pattern interrupt.' In this lesson, we'll learn and practice a simple, even fun, tool that disrupts the mind's tendency to cycle with worry, and give it a task that allows the nervous system to reset.

Lesson 2

Emotional Distancing

Research shows that thinking of your problems in the third person (using "you" or your name) creates psychological distance, reducing the intensity of an emotional experience. In this lesson, you'll have the chance to try this amazing tool, which even actively involves you in giving yourself solid advice.
