Mental Floss is a series of 5-minutes-or-less micro mediations designed for today's quick fire society. Today I’m going to help you complete your tasks. Life is so much more enjoyable when we have the confidence in ourselves to be productive. It doesn't matter if it's personal or professional, if you're looking to improve motivation, to believe and achieve, this is the exercise for you. These micro mind vacations are primarily for the busy person with only 5 minutes or less to spare. A more contemporary, upbeat backing track keeps you consciously alert while the direct relaxing suggestions help you to discover your direction.

Transcript

Welcome to day four of Mental Floss.

Today is all about completing tasks.

So find a place now to take a moment to sit,

Recline or lay down comfortably and safely.

No matter what's going on in life right now,

Allow yourself to take a big deep breath in and hold it for a second before breathing out and closing your eyes down.

To achieve any result,

You first have to believe that it's possible.

So now's the time to believe in yourself.

To open up your mind to allow self-belief to fill your thoughts.

Allow your mind to listen,

To understand.

Allow thoughts to move freely through your mind and know that anything you set out to accomplish will be perfectly completed.

Your awareness and your ability will be at its sharpest perfection.

Your attempt to complete any task will be perfect in form and function.

So I want you now to imagine a task that you have to complete.

No matter what this task might be,

Something personal,

Tidying up a room,

Working out,

Visiting a friend or something professional,

Sending an email,

Making a phone call.

I'll give you a moment to think of your task.

Now I want you to see yourself as being completely prepared.

You've done everything you needed in order to prepare and you have everything essential to completing your task to perfection.

So now you're ready to start your journey.

You're ready to start your journey.

You're prepared.

You've done everything you needed in order to prepare and you have everything essential to completing your task to perfection.

So feel your confidence begin to rise now.

Now you can feel excited to begin.

Now you're confident that you're perfectly prepared,

Perfectly capable and with 100% certainty you know you'll successfully complete this task and any task by starting one small step at a time and then one more step and then one more step.

In all that you do from this point forward,

You will be calm,

You will be confident and you'll have clear and focused thinking.

You'll now utilize all of your abilities to their fullest extent and you'll feel certain that you'll complete the task and perform at your very best.

So allow these thoughts to flow through your mind now and those great feelings of having accomplished any task flowing through your body now because you've done everything you needed.

Now you have a task flowing through your body now becoming stronger and stronger as your day goes on.

Now open your eyes and choose a task to begin.

Long review but i dont write any so i promise its worth something. So simple yet so profound. I dont normally review but this one has done wonders for me. I get stuck procrastinating snd overwhelmed and this short encouraging talk helps me go and set forth for my day. I am unsure how it is so powerful but it is. My adhd medicine wears off and I am still wanting to get my tasks done instead of crashing(btw that has never happened). Thank you! I dont understand why this isnt insanely more popular or why the reviews aren't as high. It does wonders for me. And not a lot of these do sometimes. Richard, what's your secret for this to suddenly just make a brain shift? What kind of practice is it called? Im so curious and would love to learn more of your techniques. Would love to listen to a mental floss about motivation for a task we dont want to do 😇 Edit: thank you. The tasks we avoid is where I need the most motivation with depression and anxiety. I will overthink the task and get overwhelmed with all my tasks and will bed rot. I used to do this very very frequently. New medicine has helped but this has given the final push i need in those moments. Thank you for making it so simple sometimes the meditations on here get so versed and complicated words wise that we lose the simplicity. I enjoy the words ones too but i appreciated this type of soft simplicity. If I had a child I know i could show this to them and it would help.also I normally listen to teachers with meditations that are popular. But im so grateful I found this one. Keep it up. Youre doing a great work.

Wow. This is just what I needed to reminder to stay not only motivated to complete my tasks, but also mindful enough to do them as efficiently as I can.

Simple, yet motivating! One small step, and then another small step. Yes! That makes it doable! Ok, time to get started on my task. Thank you! P. S. I was so immensely productive that day, and it's all because of this meditation! I'm going to listen to it daily, now, right before I need to get busy. I especially need it now because I've started a new med that makes my ADHD med less effective. I'm grateful that there's a solution other than increasing the dose of the stimulant.
