Tools For Self Leadership

With Fleur Chambers

Do you feel like you are reacting to life, moving from one drama or challenge to the next with little time to centre yourself. Has a low level anxiety or hyper vigilance crept in, as you take in the 24/7 news cycle. Or maybe you’ve lost the bounce in your step, a feeling of lethargy washing over you where you start to wonder ‘what's the point.’ And for those of us sensitive souls, are you noticing that you are feeling things more deeply? If you can relate to any of these ideas, this 14 day course is for you. Over two weeks together we will deepen our connection to our self with a capital S. The aspect of us who is regulated, clear headed, strong, compassionate and creative. During part one we will take a deep dive into our nervous system and learn how to bring ourselves back into a state of regulation. Part two is all about getting to know your energetic body and creating boundaries whilst also feeling connected to family, friends, nature and the cycles of life. My name is Fleur Chambers, this is my 13th course here on Insight Timer and it would be my pleasure to support you to deepen your relationship with yourself, so that you can respond to life’s joys and challenges with a clear head, relaxed body and wise heart. I hope to see you on the inside.

Lesson 1

Personalising Self Leadership

In Day 1 we set the scene, exploring why self leadership is important and map out the 14 days that lie ahead. In our practice together, we get curious, exploring what self leadership might look and feel like for each of us. We get clear on our values and also identify a self leadership symbol that we can draw upon in our everyday lives.

Lesson 2

Understanding Your Nervous System

In Day two we learn about our nervous system and The Window of Tolerance. We discuss the hyper and hypo arousal states and how these impact our lives. In our practice, we explore exteroception, a trauma informed tool for bringing us back into regulation. We also become familiar with what being in our window of tolerance feels like, so that we can move into this state more often in our everyday lives.

Lesson 3

Befriending Your Window

In Day 3 we take a deeper look at our window of tolerance with the attitudes of curiosity and non judgment. We also explore how some people have a naturally smaller window. In our practice together, we use visualisation to get a felt sense of our window, and how we have the tools to bring ourselves back into regulation each day.

Lesson 4

Working with Hyper Arousal

In Day 4 we discuss the nervous system state of hyper arousal. In our practice together, we explore how this mobilised state feels in your physical body, what it does to your emotional state, your thoughts and your behaviour. Meditation is a great way to increase our awareness of our nervous system and from here, we can pause in our everyday lives when we notice ourselves move into this state, take a breath and try a regulating practice that can bring us back into our window of tolerance.

Lesson 5

Working with Hypo Arousal

In Day 5 we discuss the nervous system state of hypo arousal. Today’s practice is an opportunity for you to explore how this immobilised state feels in your physical body, what it does to your emotional state, your thoughts and your behaviour. We will also try a trauma informed practice for bringing us out of this too cool state back into regulation.

Lesson 6

Exploring Play

In Day 6 we begin to discuss blended nervous system states, in particular, the state of play. We discuss how play can help us be with an experience of mobilisation without tipping into anxiety or overwhelm. In our practice together, we deepen our connection to play, and get curious about how we could bring more of this blended state into our everyday lives.

Lesson 7

Embracing Awe

In day 7 we continue to explore blended states, this time moving our attention to awe. You will learn the neuroscience around awe and exactly why it is such an effective self leadership tool for moving out of anxiety or shut down into a mobilised but grounded state where you feel inspired and able to think in much deeper, and more expansive ways. In our practice together we will reflect upon a past experience of awe, and get creative about how we can weave more awe into our everyday lives.

Lesson 8

R.A.I.N.

In Day 8 we explore how we have been conditioned to push down our emotions and hurry through the hard times and how this culture of avoidance does not support self leadership. In our meditation together, we use the framework RAIN to help us understand and befriend our challenges so that we can live a bigger, bolder life.

Lesson 9

Your Energetic Body

In Day 9 we turn our attention to energy. We note that energy isn’t esoteric, it’s not woowoo, and it’s certainly not only available to a certain few. We all have the ability to feel and shift energy. And when we open our awareness to the energy that moves within our bodies and all around us, we can learn to let go of what no longer serves us, to have clearer boundaries with family, friends and colleagues. We can feel strong and less pulled in by the drama of other people’s lives and opinions. We can also feel more connected to, and trusting of life. Today’s meditation is an opportunity to begin to explore your energetic body or to deepen your relationship to it.

Lesson 10

Energy, Trust and Perspective

In Day 10 we explore how opening our awareness to the energy that is contained in all things helps our life to become richer and more meaningful. In our practice together, we experience how through the portal of energy, we gain access to a much larger pool of intelligence that we can then use to help make decisions and guide us.

Lesson 11

Energetic Boundaries

In Day 11 we explore energetic boundaries. We learn to soften the energetic ties we have to people, situations and environments that might feel unhealthy or uncalibrated. Because the truth is, we can’t help anyone from an entangled state. In our practice together, we get curious and creative about the people and situations we would like to feel less pulled in by.

Lesson 12

Empathy The Goldilocks Way

In Day 12 we continue to explore the idea of energetic boundaries by discussing empathy, empathetic distress, compassion and equanimity. Self leadership includes having healthy boundaries, understanding what is mine and what is theirs and a willingness to be with the real pain of situations without getting busy fixing or withdrawing. In our guided practice together, we explore moving from empathetic distress to compassion through the vehicle of equanimity.

Lesson 13

Interconnectivity

In Day 13 we drop deep into the truth of just how interconnected our lives really are and how we can use this awareness to be more discerning with how we spend our days, weeks, months, and ultimately our lives. In our practice together, we use visualisation to experience embodied connection and from here, get honest about what really matters.

Lesson 14

Trust Your Impact

In Day 14 we consolidate our learnings and reflect on the key takeaways from this 14 part self leadership experience. In our final practice together, we allow nature to remind us of the ripple that our self leadership will have on family, friends, colleagues and the planet.

yet another beautiful course of Fleur’s, so worthy of my time and investment! The course was a bit of a surprise-when I hear “leadership” I think of cognitive and listening skillsets to lead others—but this course was about listening and deepening my relationship with myself which then positions me to be lead with calm, humor, depth AND lightness and equanimity. So lovely. A few years ago, Fleur had mentioned the “ripple” effect we can each have on the world-sometimes not knowing just how our presence and actions may ripple out to affect others. That theme popped up again for me here, an idea I really love and embrace. Thank you Fleur, as always! I know you have an upcoming series of live events—I’m not going to be available most of those evenings but if/when I can join I most certainly will! ❤️
