Mindful Retirement For Men

With Nico Mulholland

Most men have spent their energies on working and building a stable foundation for their families. This is usually done as a matter of course and not really given much thought, but soon enough retirement age rolls around and then there can be a large blank of time to fill in. Post retirement is , unfortunately, also a period in which men die suddenly...not from health issues, but simply from not having a reason for living. This course helps us to get connected to each other, finding new meaning and purpose in our lives - rebuilding for the twilight years.

Meet your Teacher

Nico is a qualified mental health counselor with an online practice based in Tokyo, Japan. His clients have included men dealing with the sudden changes brought about by retirement or redundancy. Although each scenario is personal and ranging in complexity, speaking with a therapist helps to bring clarity to life changes and perhaps helps to reduce the levels of anxiety sometimes encountered when we face unchartered territories and crises of an existential nature. This course may help in deciding to seek support from men's groups or counselors in your area.

Tibetan Buddhists recommend that we think about death and the brief time we have on this planet. This action does not have to have to be bleak in aspect. Let's turn it into a constructive and positive process.

Lesson 3

Taking Stock

Taking stock, knowing where we are at - and more importantly...sharing that information is the crux and content of this lesson. There is a lot of information to consider, so do listen to this lesson as many times as you need. OF course, the content of the folder depends on what you wish to include - it may be more extensive with family photographs and other memorabilia. The choice is yours.

Lesson 4

Facing Loss

Can we agree that coping with loss is one of the most challenging aspects of life? How often do we go from one day to the next pretending that we are immortal and that others in our lives are immortal too? If we allow ourselves to consider the reality that loss and grief come to us all, then we may be better prepared for it. Maybe.

Lesson 5

Ikigai - Living Our Best Life

The concept of Ikigai - or living our best life, may not be new to you. As we move into retirement we may need to revisit some fundamental values in our lives and re-adjust them to reflect our current here and now.
