Inside every one of us lives an inner pharmacy, a way of connecting deeper, a way of bringing about calm, relaxation... A way of energising and a way of deep healing. And it's called the breath. The breath is an immensely powerful tool. We can use it to shift our energy, our feelings, and sensations in the blink of an eye and we all have access to it at every moment of every day. Yet, for many of us, the breath is simply air in and air out. But it is so much more and so much greater than that. During this 9-day course, we will dive into several dis-eases that are common today and how we can utilise the breath to bring about transformation and healing.

Rachel is a trauma informed somatic educator & breathwork facilitator & is passionate about guiding you home to your body. By creating safety in the body you create a container to be able to FEEL what is alive for you. And it is through this experience of feeling safe to feel that you open yourself up to life in full colour.

Lesson 1

The Breath as Anxiety Medicine

Anxiety can manifest in a variety of ways for people including both physical, mental and emotional symptoms. Working WITH the breath when we are experiencing anxiety allows us to bypass the complexities of the mind and work directly with the body. So, instead of trying to *think* your way out of anxiety, you can DO something to help alleviate the experience. This lesson culminates with a practice you can do to minimise the impacts of anxiety.

Lesson 2

The Breath as Depression Medicine

Most people at some point in their lives will experience depression, whether it is fleeting moments to prolonged periods of time. When we understand the energetics of depression we can use our inner resources much more effectively to get to the root of depressive episodes. This practice culminates with an energising practice to help lift your energy.

Lesson 3

Breathing your Way to Deep Sleep

It’ll come as no surprise that sleep is important and when we aren’t sleeping well it has a dramatic impact on all areas of life. Between 10 - 30% of the world population struggle with disordered sleep and the breath can play such a vital role in whether or not we sleep well and deeply and how rejuvenated we feel the following day. This practice culminates in a breath practice to lull you off into a deep restful sleep.

Lesson 4

The Breath as Asthma Medicine

Asthma impacts over 300 million people worldwide and although there can be many different triggers for asthma, it is deeply connected to the breath and in particular, the exhale. When we begin, not only to develop a better way of breathing but also get better at exhaling, asthma symptoms can improve dramatically. This lesson culminates with a breath practice to help strengthen the exhalation.

Lesson 5

The Breath as a Digestive Aid

Breathing and the diaphragm muscle both play a vital role in how well, or not, you digest your food. Every single time you breathe, your diaphragm descends and gently massages your digestive organs, promoting a healthier, smoother digestive process. When the diaphragm is weak and the breath is shallow, this can and will have huge impacts on your digestive abilities. This lesson culminates with a practice to strengthen the diaphragm for greater digestive capacities.

Lesson 6

Movement to Support Breath, Breath to Support Movement

How well you move impacts your breath. If you are stuck in routine ways of moving, not truly using your physical capacity to its fullest, this likely will have an impact on how well you breathe. The breath also has a huge impact on the health of your spine as each time you breathe in and out your spine responds. In this lesson we will look at several different movements that you can do to open up the breathing spaces in your body and this lesson culminates with a practice to open up your back and relieve back pain.

Natural Urges - The Yawn

The humble yawn is often given a bad name as simply a sign of you being bored or tired. But it is so much more than that. Yawning is a natural urge that shouldn’t be restricted and can in fact be utilised as a very powerful intentional breathing practice that acts as an adaptogen for your energy. This lesson culminates in a powerful yawning practice.

Sighing is another natural urge that is often culturally frowned upon, yet, this powerful response can have an immediate tranquillising impact on the body and mind. This practice culminates with a powerful sighing practice.

Breathing as Detox Medicine

Over 70% of the body’s toxins that are produced are released through the breath. The breath is an often overlooked yet actually powerful detoxification tool. Learn how you can use your breath to harness this detoxification ability daily! This lesson culminates with a powerful morning detoxification practice.
