Wheel Of The Year: Celebrating Imbolc

With Jessica Inman

This five-day course includes meditations and exercises for celebrating and aligning with the Celtic festival of Imbolc. Celebrated on the 1st of February in the Northern Hemisphere and the 1st of August in the Southern Hemisphere, Imbolc is the time when the first signs of spring are seen in nature and so marks the beginning of the Springtime. During the course, we'll explore some ways to celebrate the early spring in your own life, we'll look at some Ayurveda-inspired diet and lifestyle principles to assist in the transition from winter to spring, and we'll practice some meditations and reflection exercies connected to themes of the season. Imbolc is a time of hope, renewal and new beginnings. As the days become longer and the promise of warmth and abundance is not far away, we can celebrate the light and set our intentions for the months to come. This course is intended to bring you some insight and joy at this time. Background Music by Jumping Bunny at Pixabay Image by Daniel Norin

Meet your Teacher

Jessica is a long term student of natural and holistic systems of medicine and Spirituality and has long been fascinated with the origins of traditions and celebrations around the year. She believes that the patterns and cycles that we find in nature can also be found within ourselves and that, through aligning ourselves to the seasons, we can realise our own natural wisdom. She has created these courses as an introduction to the Celtic wheel of the year and to the ways we can celebrate and align with the festivals.

The First Signs Of Spring

The Celtic festival of Imbolc marks the beginning of the spring, when the days are becoming noticeably longer and the first signs of new life start to appear. After an introduction to the course, we'll practice a meditation to see this time of year through the eyes of our ancestors, when the coming of longer, lighter and warmer days would have been an important turning point in the year.

Lesson 3

Early Spring Wellbeing

As we begin the transition from winter into spring, our bodies adjust from needing rest and nourishment in the winter to cleansing and activity in the spring. In early February, we still want to maintain some of our winter lifestyle, but are starting to look towards the warmer months ahead. In this session, we'll look at how including spices in your diet can help to support the transition from winter to spring, with a simple Ayurvedic tea recipe to support the digestive system.

Lesson 4

Trataka Meditation

In this session, we'll practice a Yogic meditation called 'Trataka,' which means 'fixed gaze.' In this simple but powerful meditation, you're invited to visualise a dot of light at the eyebrow centre; this is purifying for the mind and increases focus and concentration. This meditation can help us to feel renewed after the winter and gain clarity and focus as we look ahead to the coming months.

Lesson 5

Aligning With Imbolc

In our final session, we'll look at how the themes associated with Imbolc are manifesting in our own lives with some topics for reflection. We'll then do a guided meditation with a visualisation of lighting three candles to make intentions for the months ahead. Where this is delivered as a visualisation, you are also welcome to do this with physical candles if you prefer - be sure to have the candles and a match or lighter at hand!

I really appreciate being reminded of seasons of the year in such a turbulent world. Climate change is impacting all of creation, so having moments of settling into these natural rhythms that are constant settles and comforts me. So thank you for the course, I’ll look for more with the spring equinox!
