What is not yet supported: large trials of walking body awareness, long-term follow-up, and any physical-function claim, one pilot trial found no balance or mobility benefit for stroke survivors (Lindvall & Forsberg, 2014). These are best read as early starting points, not established outcomes.
Body-attention practices related to walking meditation have improved stress, body awareness, and mood in small trials, though walking body awareness itself has rarely been tested directly (Parkinson & Smith, 2025). Greater body awareness also tends to track with steadier heart-rate regulation and lower mood symptoms (Ruggiero et al., 2025). Anyone with significant balance problems or unsteadiness should practise on stable ground or with support, since attention naturally turns inward while walking.
