Sacred Rest: Celtic Wisdom For Burnout & Overwhelm

With Dee Hennessy

This course is an invitation to step away from the demands of doing, and to rediscover the healing power of rest. In Celtic tradition, rest is not idleness. It is a sacred rhythm woven into the fabric of life — just as the earth rests in winter, or the trees release their leaves in autumn. Rest restores, nourishes, and prepares us for new growth. Across these three lessons, we will follow a gentle cycle of release, surrender, and renewal: Lesson 1: The Great Exhale — softening the body through breath and letting go. Lesson 2: The Still Pool — surrendering into silence and remembering your worth in simply being. Lesson 3: Blossoming Again — receiving renewal, trusting your own unfolding. Each session begins with a teaching from celtic wisdom after which I guide you into a practise to support you to strengthen your ability to rest. We finish each lesson with a short closing blessing. The practices are simple, tender, and designed to support you especially in times of weariness or burnout. Take these lessons at your own pace. You may choose to listen at the end of the day, before sleep, or whenever your body and heart are calling for rest. May this journey be a sanctuary for you. May rest find you, gently and deeply. And may you return to yourself, restored and renewed. The sacred Gaelic chant used in this course is with the kind permission of Céile Dé, an esoteric Celtic path of spiritual awakening. Called Siochan Dia Dhuit ( the peace of God be upon you), this chant with its simple message and serene melody create an atmosphere of clarity and sacred calm, supporting you as you cultivate the skill of deep restorative rest.

Meet your Teacher

With a background in Philosophy, a primary degree in Theology, Dee is a specialist in Mindful Leadership (knowing how to regulate ourselves as we support others). Dee helps over-busy humans to deepen their capacity to pause, to rest, and to prevent or recover from burnout, and so to blossom - to come home to calm and equanimity. Many years ago, Dee herself experienced burnout as a committed, passionate professional who understood little about real resilience and self-care. Further exploration in Philosophy, Eastern and Western Wisdom Traditions, and New Cosmology has informed Dee's evidence-based perspective on the universe that offers a way to integrate scientific, spiritual, personal, and cultural viewpoints into a meaningful whole. In more recent years, Dee completed an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Interventions, & further specialist postgraduate training in Spiritual Companioning, Wisdom Supervision & Trauma-Informed Online Facilitation. Dee is the founder of two unique gold standard programmes, Compassionate Leadership for organisations, and Blossom, for women who want to develop exquisite self-care and resilient leadership skills. It is Dee's delight to share here simple practices from nature, neuroscience, and mindfulness, reminding us that we are human beings, not just human doings, and that we are made for ease, peace, joy, and connection. Dee loves that IT allows us to experience the reality that 'we are all just walking each other home.'

Lesson 1

The Great Exhale – Letting The Body Soften

In this first lesson, we begin our journey into deep rest by learning how to lean into the exhale. In Celtic tradition, breath is sacred — anáil na beatha — the breath of life. When we are weary, the exhale becomes a powerful way to release what feels heavy and to soften into safety. This practice invites you to let go, as the trees release their leaves in autumn, and to lay down what you no longer need to carry. Each breath becomes a step toward rest, renewal, and ease.

Lesson 2

The Still Pool – Surrendering Into Silence

This second session leads you deeper into rest through the power of silence. In Celtic lands, still pools and holy wells were places of healing and renewal. Here, silence itself becomes your sanctuary. As you surrender into stillness, you are reminded that your worth is not in what you do, but in simply being. The teaching and practice in this lesson will teach you how to spend time in a state of profound calm, where every part of your body can soften and be held. Rest here by the Still Pool, and allow its quietness to restore your spirit.

Lesson 3

Blossoming Again – Receiving Renewal

In our final lesson, we learn how to lean into the wisdom that rest provides the fertile soil for renewal. Drawing inspiration from the Celtic wheel of the year, we reflect on how winter gives way to spring, and blossoms return in their season. Rest is not emptiness — it is the ground where new life stirs. In the practice, you are invited to rest like a seed in the earth, receiving nourishment and trusting your own unfolding. Renewal does not come by force, but gently, in its own time. May you blossom again, restored and renewed.
