Meet Yourself: Positive, Loving And Compassionate Pathways To Self-Connection

With Alison Potts

A relationship with ourself has to be chosen. By taking this course you are making a conscious choice to show up for yourself to nurture and strengthen your relationship. We are always meeting ourselves, because we live within ourselves 24 hours a day. We meet ourselves with our thoughts about ourselves, our self-talk and self-treatment. We may disconnect from ourselves when we are too invested in showing up in the external world, which can result in us bumping up against internal feelings of emptiness or anxiety. The more we make meeting with ourselves a positive experience, the greater our self-confidence, self worth and self trust. In this course you will learn how to develop a strong inner alliance with yourself, by creating intentional meeting spaces for yourself in which you offer yourself powerful, positive qualities of attention. You will learn to see the multiple opportunities for moments with yourself that show up in your every day life, but are often missed opportunities. You will learn the power of acceptance and welcome, of attending to all parts of yourself, in a way that is safe and free of shame, to soften your inner tone and listen, to meet your ever-present inner ally, to greet yourself before you greet the day, to send love and healing to struggling parts and to give yourself credit and encouragement. Overall, you will discover more parts of you revealing themselves to you and a greater sense of agency, resilience, confidence and self worth. You will get to love, be grateful for, and enjoy, being with yourself, being for yourself and being yourself.

Lesson 1

What It Means To Meet Yourself

As a person-focussed mentor and guide, over the years I have met so many clients who – above all else – long to have a better connection with themselves. It’s a universal longing inside us. We don't always give ourselves the best quality of attention, disconnecting from ourselves to engage more with perceived values of the external world and approaching ourselves with poor self talk and self treatment. What does it mean to make a choice to meet ourselves with intentional positive qualities of attention and how can we make that happen? This lesson explores that and offers a very grounding practice for the simplest and briefest way of all, to make an authentic connection with ourselves.

Lesson 2

Soften Your Inner Tone

Softening towards ourselves happens the moment we decide to shift our inner tone towards acceptance, compassion and friendliness. In other words, the moment we decide to be welcoming. There is a very powerful, evidence-based way of self-attuning that develops powerful inner compassion. It uses gaze, tone and touch. In this lesson, we understand the power of welcome and acceptance and practice meeting all the different parts of ourselves with a soft gaze, soft tone and self touch.

Lesson 3

Meet Your Inner Ally

A meditation to offer you a practice of seeing and feeling your body through the eyes of someone who cares and wants to help. This presence exists in all of us - I call it "The Inner Ally". Why is there value in this? Because when we see ourself more with the eyes of a wise, caring soul than with the eyes of a critic, our being feels safe to open up to us and communicate wise guidance and initiate deep healing. You can return here whenever you want to be in this field of inner love and security.

Lesson 4

Meet Yourself Before You Meet The Day

There is an incredible power in connecting with yourself first thing in the morning - before you even look at your phone and let the rest of the world and its opinions and demand infiltrate. Many of us have morning habits and routines - today's lesson teaches you powerful ways you can invest in self-connection experiences in activities such as your morning beverage or walk, and continue to add "top ups: during the natural moments of your day.

Lesson 5

Send Yourself Love And Healing

This lesson reminds you that there are places inside you that need to receive something from you. The call of your hurts, struggles and even shame, do not deserve to be neglected or pushed away. Difficult feelings are simply feelings having difficulty. We are empowered when we remember we have it in ourselves to give ourselves love and healing. This lesson includes a beautiful embodied practice for doing just that.
