Based on the characteristics from Codependents Anonymous, this course is intended to be adjunct to any therapeutic or 12-step work involving codependency. It differs from cognitive strategies by adding elements of physical healing like building muscular strength, soothing the nervous system and opening energetic channels for stuck energy to flow. Influenced by Rick Hanson, Tara Brach, Deb Dana and Sarahjoy Marsh.


Meet your Teacher

Sadie is a 500-hour trauma-informed registered yoga teacher, meditation teacher, ayurvedic practitioner, and sobriety mentor with a B.S. in psychology. Her teachings are a melding pot of eastern philosophies, neuroscience, and recovery principles. She received her teaching certification from and is part of the teaching faculty at the Institute for Living Yoga, a Yoga Alliance registered yoga school led by Sarahjoy Marsh who pioneered the prison yoga teacher training program in Oregon and has been training mental health providers, social workers, and allied health professionals in the therapeutic benefits of yoga since 2000.

Lesson 3

Develop Strong Boundaries

Today we're talking about energetic boundaries. It's common to feel overwhelmed by crowds like going to the grocery store or social events. Even just one person in your energy field can leave you feeling frayed. Today’s practice is called the egg of light and is inspired by qi gong. All you’ll need is some standing space.

Soothe Your Inner Critic

That voice inside your head that keeps you stuck from making decisions, taking risks and speaking your truth- we call that the inner critic. Today's lesson involves using the breath to befriend and welcome that part of you.

Detach From Limiting Beliefs

“You're either attaching to your beliefs or you’re inquiring” -Tara Brach The goal is not to be rid of, but to become aware of limiting beliefs. Today will be some info about neuroscience and a combination of heartfulness and mindfulness using Tara Brach's RAIN method and my spin on Rick Hansons' installing the good technique.

In today’s adventure, you’ll be touring the landscape of people pleasing. We'll take a look at it roots and how its embedded in our biology followed by a writing activity, simple movement and visualization. Have a pen and paper.

Use Your Voice

Communicating is essential for connection and self expression. Speaking up, setting boundaries, saying what you need, telling others you love them, consoling someone who’s upset. The voice is a marvelous tool which we'll activate today using the sound of AUM (aka OM).

I did not know where to begin to heal my codependence. Being bathed, I'm a codependent environment, I could not even see it. I could just feel it. This course gave me an opportunity to feel it first and then yeah, put concepts to those feelings. I guess I struggled to understand how all of the practices related directly back to codependency. It would have been nice to link that topic through the practices more.

Great class and meditation. So much help with practicing kindness to my inner Critic, she is my friend and not the demon I should ignore or and control. And understand that the more I try to control my friend, the bigger she becomes…amen to that. I loved RAIN method and the WAIT acronyms. Nice to focus on these tools when I need to.
