Lesson 1
Igniting Your Root Chakra
Your root chakra, the first energy center of your chakra system, is located at the base of your spine, beneath your tailbone and within your pelvic wall.
In Sanskrit, your root is named Manipura, which translates to "city of jewels" or "lustrous gem".
The color associated with your root is a vibrant red and the element is earth.
Your Root Chakra is your connection to the Earth's vibration. It is your grounding force, your centering chakra, and what gives you your sense of safety, security, and sensuality.
When your root chakra is out of balance, you may experience feelings of being unsafe, unloved, and disconnected from your body and your surroundings. You may also have a sense of feeling overall "unrooted".
When your root chakra is balanced, you feel connected to the earth and centered and grounded within your body and yourself. You feel comfortable expressing your sensuality and have an overall feeling of safety and stability.
Your root chakra is also your energy center that expels negative emotions. When it is aligned, open and flowing, negativity passes through you instead of being held and stores in other parts of your body.
Rituals and Practices to help boost alignment of your root chakra include taking a nature walk or planting your bare feet on the earth, wearing the color red, consuming red juices, red fruits, and root vegetables, and meditating in silence while visualizing nature, the earth, and feelings of being connected and "rooted".
Crystals to heal your root are Cuprite (when dealing with difficult physical and healing issues, as well as anxiety), Almandine Garnet (connects you to the earth and is grounding for your physical body, boosting your energy), and Red Jade (a warrior stone, bringing out your passion, vitality, and sexual energy).
Aromatherapy/ essential oils to strengthen your root include myrrh, patchouli, ylang-ylang, and vetiver.

The color of your sacral chakra is a beautiful orange, and the element associated with this chakra is water.
Your sacral chakra is the energy center of your creativity, joy, enthusiasm for life, emotional expressions, and is the center of creating deep and connected relationships.
When your sacral chakra is out of balance, or blocked, you may feel energetically stagnant, emotionally "stuck", lonely, and experience a lack of creative inspiration. You may also carry feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, and feel that you have an inability to genuinely connect with others.
When your sacral chakra is in balance, you feel excitement, energetically alive, fully expressed emotionally, and you may be inspired to create.

Igniting Your Solar Plexus Chakra
Igniting Your Solar Plexus Chakra
The solar plexus chakra, is located in your abdomen, just above your navel.
Named Manipura in Sanskrit, this translates to "City of Jewels" and it is where your light radiates from within.
The color of your solar plexus is a brilliant yellow and the element is fire. It is your center of power. This is the chakra where full mastery of your physical body is achieved and your confidence and ability to assert yourself extends from.
When your solar plexus is out of balance, your inner light is shut down, and you often take action from the place of your ego. You have feelings of being imbalanced, with a depletion of energy and also may become self-sabotaging, with a want and need to control others. When your manipura is blocked, so is your entire energy system. You may experience lower back pain or digestion issues, along with a lack of confidence.
When your solar plexus is balanced, your light shines bright, your aura expands, you feel confident in your power, and you attract the light of others. You are confident and your fears subside. Sadness turns to joy, and your insecurities melt away. When your solar plexus chakra is balanced, you make clear and confident decisions, without judgment. Your personal identity shines bright.
Rituals and practices to help boost alignment of your solar plexus include drinking chamomile tea, eating yellow foods, drinking lemon water, and going outdoors to soak up the sunshine.

Igniting Your Heart Chakra
Your heart chakra, the fourth chakra, is located at the center of your chest, near your sternum.
It is called your Anahata, meaning "unstruck, unhurt, or unbeaten", and it is referring to sound.
The color associated with your heart chakra is a vibrant green and the element is air.
Your heart chakra is ignited by the love of creation and is your center for compassion, serenity, passion, devotion, and unconditional love. It is the gateway between your body and spirit and the strength of it determines your ability to give and receive unconditional love. This chakra pushes us forward to grow and develop emotionally.
When it is out of balance, we feel "shut down" and may begin to fear the feelings associated with love. You may feel unloveable, wanting and needing love but not clear on how to obtain it. When the heart chakra is closed, it causes feelings of co-dependency and jealousy, and may lead to unhealthy partnerships.
When it is in balance, you are able to emanate unconditional love, the highest and purest form of love. You are connected spiritually and propelled to grow emotionally. You are wildly open-hearted.
Rituals and practices to help open your heart chakra, include those associated with air, like deep breathing techniques, which help strengthen and open it. Spending time in nature and surrounded by the color green is healing for your heart chakra. Also, sitting with natures beauty, such as a rose and meditating upon its serene beauty will connect you deeper to your heart center.

In Sanskrit this is called Vishuddha, translating to "especially pure".
The color associated with your throat chakra is turquoise and the element is ether or space.
Your throat chakra is the center of your expression, your voice, as well as listening with higher communication, authenticity, and genuine kindness.

When it is out of balance, you feel out of place, shut down, and depression may result if you are not sharing your truth.
Rituals and practices to help open your throat chakra include singing, humming and chanting. Igniting Your Third Eye Chakra
The third eye chakra is located above your brow, at the center of your forehead.
In Sanskrit, it is called Ajna, meaning "authority", "command", or "perceive".
The color associated with the third eye is indigo, violet, or white and the element is all of the elements, in their pure form: light.
The purpose of this chakra is to guide you to your intuition, your inner perception with clarity of thought, as well as your center of spiritual guidance.
When your third eye is out of balance, you often confuse information with knowledge and may exhibit arrogance and follow self-limiting thoughts and behaviors. When it is blocked, you may forget to trust your intuition, which in turn, further depletes the power of the Ajna.
When your third eye is in balance, you are able to step beyond the perceptions of the mind and into a realm of knowledge and wisdom that allows you to see and understand a deeper meaning for situations and experiences in life. When the Ajna is open, you both see and understand. Remembering your dreams is a sign that your third eye is flourishing, as well as a heightened sense of "knowing" and even seeing energy or auras. If you experience headaches or eye strain, go outdoors and focus peacefully on nature.
The color green is healing for the third eye, so surrounding yourself in trees and focusing on their brilliance will help settle this chakra. Touch the location between the brows of your third eye, close your eyes, and visualize white light beaming into this area. Repeat these mantras: "I am open and guided by my intuition", "My intuition has clarity, wisdom, and divine guidance", "I seek to always learn and grow from my life experiences", and "I trust and follow my intuition".
Crystals for your third eye include amethyst, diamond, lepidolite, and blue topaz. Aromatherapy/ essential oils to strengthen your third eye include clary sage, sandalwood, neroli, and peppermint.

Igniting Your Crown Chakra
Your crown chakra, the seventh chakra, is located at the top of your head and hovering just above it.
In Saskrit, your crown is named Sahasrara, which means "thousand petals".
The color is violet, white, rainbow, and gold. The element is thought.
Your crown chakra is your connection to Source. It is the chakra center of knowing that you are a part of the Universe and that the Universe is part of you.
When your crown chakra is out of balance, you make fear-based decisions and actions. Feelings of loneliness can be consuming, and you turn down meaningful connections with others. When your crown chakra is balanced, you have a higher state of consciousness and a feeling of inner peace that we are all interconnected. Limiting beliefs disappear when the crown chakra is aligned and you are capable of creating and manifesting everything that you desire.
Rituals and practices to help open your crown chakra include deep meditation, which allows you to enter the state of bliss that the crown chakra offers. Many meditators describe this as a peaceful feeling where all is one. The "space" where there is a feeling and understanding that all is connected.
