Lent: Enter The Stillness - by Miranda Ruth Gill

COURSE

Lent: Enter The Stillness

With Miranda Ruth Gill

Lent is a faith journey. An invitation to meet with God in silent places and come back changed. In this course, we’ll explore Lent as a gateway to spiritual transformation. We’ll experience a series of meditation practices from the contemplative Christian tradition, sitting in stillness with the Presence of the Divine. There will be plenty of space for silence as well as reflection and journalling to help the experience go deeper. We’ll end with a reflection on how we feel personally called to move forward through the rest of Lent, to honour our unique relationship with God. This course will primarily resonate with a Christian audience but is open to all. It’s more about letting go and allowing God to transform us through silent practice, than about engaging with a specific belief system – though as this is a Lent course, it does reflect on Jesus’ experience in the wilderness, and it uses the language of God, Jesus and the Spirit.

Meet your Teacher

Miranda is a meditation guide whose life has been transformed through the practice of contemplation. Living with severe and chronic illness, she dove into meditation to make sense of her experience. Finding the meditative tradition within Christianity became a pathway home. Surrendering to God in the heart, she honours her Christian roots while letting go of all her borders and boundaries, opening to find God in unexpected places. Practising contemplation brings her deeper levels of love and the joy of seeing God written through all things. Prone to anxiety and depression, Miranda understands the challenges of sitting in stillness, which makes her a deeply compassionate teacher. She seeks to support others along their path home, to the God who dwells at the core of their heart.

Lesson 2

Eyes Willing To See

Today we'll explore the ancient practice of Lectio Divina (divine reading), sitting and soaking in a passage from a sacred text. We’ll consider how this practice can open our eyes to the text in a new way, allowing the flow of the Spirit to speak to us and gently create change within us, as we sit softly in silent receiving. We'll experience a Lectio Divina practice with Mark 8: 14-21, followed by space for silent reflection.

Lesson 3

Becoming Love

Today we'll explore mantra meditation as another pathway to stillness and a gateway to inner transformation. We'll experience a silent practice, allowing the phrase, ‘Love speak to me, and through me’ to flow through us. As we allow this beautiful mantra to sink into the mind, it gradually becomes a response of the heart as we slowly align ourselves with Divine Love. We'll close with journaling and reflection.

We’ll experience a centering prayer practice, followed by space for reflection.

Lesson 5

Your Unique Journey

There will be space for journaling and reflection on the journey so far and we'll explore which practices are calling to our hearts. We’ll say yes to following the call of our own spirit and the Spirit which flows through us all – understanding that Lent is just the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith.

This is a wonderful course to welcome in Lent. I particularly enjoyed the Lectio Divino and Contemplative tracks. I will put this on repeat for next year’s Lenten Season. Thank you.
