So well said. You hear “trauma informed care ” so frequently now but many of us made the shift in practice nearly 20 years ago choosing to understand with compassion instead of judgement or assumptions. Thank you for such a clear explanation.

Would've like to actually find more on recovery techniques but still a good listen.

I love this. It gave me greater understanding of another’s trauma response. One that I have only just realised and this information has helped. No doubt if I listen again I’ll see that my behaviour to can be a trauma response. Thank you.

Finally, such a well-explained definition of what ‘trauma informed’ really, actually means in practice - both professionally and personally. It feels as if this concept has been diluted whilst also simultaneously complicated over the years, to the point that it often feels like an elusive ‘unicorn’ these days (especially in mainstream mental health services), something almost mythical and rarely ever seen. As a result, I fear many people seeking support are ‘re-traumatised’ by the interactions they have not only with purely informed practitioners (causing iatrogenic harm), but also with themselves - via a process of pathologising natural physiological responses to experiences occurring in our environment, then turning the person themself into ‘the problem’ needing to be ‘fixed’. As opposed to approaching them with the curiosity you describe, as someone with a story to tell and a body/nervous system that remembers every detail. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable resource 🙏🏽🌱
