COURSE
With Debra Hall
This course is for everyone who would like to learn to fall asleep with ease. It directs focus away from ‘trying’ to get to sleep, which often means trying too hard and instead teaches you how to use the ultimate sleep tool, Yoga Nidra. It spotlights the hypnogogic state, which is the natural in-between place on the cusp of sleep that we all experience each day. The hypnogogic state is vitally important because it is the only doorway into sleep. When you are able to find this state of equilibrium and homeostasis deliberately, you will tip into sleep easily. You will also learn how to use Yoga Nidra to fully relax on all levels before you go to sleep and lengthen the amount of time you spend in the hypnogogic state. This will improve the quality of your sleep so that you wake up feeling energised and refreshed. Yoga Nidra is a practice that has deep and ancient roots. It addresses the importance of having a method which goes far beyond quick fixes and recognises that the complex sleep problems now in existence are part of the proliferation of technologies and artificial light that our sensitive organic brains cannot adapt to. It is both functional and sacred, offering a quality of rest and peace where we can experience our deepest self, which was never born and never dies. One of the easiest practices in the world, it is done lying down or semi reclining. It doesn’t require concentration, just listening to audio guidance in a relaxed way. This course is very practical, mostly experiential and built around evidence based research. For anyone who is struggling with exhaustion, lesson five sign-posts you to tracks that you can use straightaway to build up your energy and base level of rest. These are also designed to support your night-time Yoga Nidra practice once you have completed the course. It is not necessarily a pre-requisite, because this course is complete in itself, but if you are completely new to Yoga Nidra, you may find it helpful to visit my 'Yoga Nidra-Our Whole Nature' course first, as it offers a full introduction to Yoga Nidra. Note: There are over a hundred sleep disorders that have been identified so it’s important if you suspect you might have one, to seek support and medical help from your GP health practitioner or a specialized sleep clinic.
