This course is structured as a teaching story in five parts, each containing simple and timeless truths that resonate with all ages. While it is specially designed for children and the adults who care for them—parents, grandparents, and other caretakers—it is also for anyone in touch with their eternal inner child. The story unfolds through the lens of a quest, with challenges to be overcome. Throughout the course, you'll encounter valuable teachings on Mindfulness, True Happiness, and the Chakras, represented as seven rainbow keys that unlock the door to a balanced, joyful, and energetic life. At the end of the story, there are two extra lessons to help you recap everything you learned in the story and some helpful, fun activities introduced by the six new monkey friends that Sock Monkey made.


Meet your Teacher

Debra lives in an ancient Glen in South West Scotland which has native woodlands, a hidden walled garden, lakes, lochs, craggy hills, and mountains, some of which Sock Monkey visits in the story. Love for nature and an acute awareness of what is happening to the Earth are features of her work. She is a Mindfulness teacher and Reiki Master with over thirty-five years of experience.  She has worked with children of all ages in schools and community settings and has made a lot of Sock Monkeys.

Lesson 1

Monkey Mind And Blue Sky Mindfulness

In this lesson, and first chapter of the story, we meet Sock Monkey - the coolest toy ever to be cut out of a pair of socks, her best friend Jan the Sheepdog, and her new teacher, the Garden Buddha. You are introduced to how mischievous Sock Monkey is but also how lonely. The Buddha tells her how she might start to train her 'Monkey Mind' so that she can be happier.

Lesson 2

Sock Monkey’s Blue Sky Mindfulness Challenges

In the next part of the story, Garden Buddha sets Sock Monkey some challenges. You learn, through Sock Monkey’s experiences, how listening to sounds is easier for calming Monkey Mind, rather than trying to clear your thoughts by not thinking about anything. Sock Monkey also settles her emotions and has a creative time with color when she knits herself a rainbow-striped tail warmer.

Lesson 3

Sock Monkey Finds A Safe, Happy Place To Deal With Her Difficult Feelings

Sock Monkey goes for a walk with Jan and Garden Buddha to a quiet lake. She forgets she's supposed to be Mindful and throws big stones into it, to make big splashes. She builds a den and learns some more tips on how to manage difficult feelings. She does some special animal Tai Chi and finds a secret walled garden where a hedgehog walks right up to her. She ends her day with some yoga and a snuggle-up with Jan.

Lesson 4

Sock Monkey Discovers That Kindness And Gratitude Bring Her Happiness Too

Sock Monkey goes out to see all the new signs of Spring growth. She sees a carpet of snowdrops, makes a mandala, helps a fallen tree, and recognizes how good she feels when she is being kind. She starts the practice of reflecting on her day with Garden Buddha to choose three nighttime Gratitudes and she has a Mystical experience.

Lesson 5

Sock Monkey Makes Some New Friends And Learns About The Rainbow Chakra Keys

In this final part of Sock Monkey’s story, you will hear what the 7 Rainbow Chakra Keys are. While Sock Monkey is wishing on the new crescent moon, she has a wonderful inspiration to make some new friends to help her tell the world about Blue Sky Mindfulness, the Chakras, lasting happiness, and Love.

Lesson 6

Activities To Help You have Lasting Happiness And Your Own Blue Sky Mind

In this lesson, we take a closer look at how to have true happiness and some activities that can help you to skillfully handle Monkey Mind when it happens. You will explore the difference between what makes you happy some of the time and what makes you happy all of the time. You will learn a helpful way to use your breath to calm your mind and a fun way to remember the colors of the rainbow before you are introduced to the colorful chakra monkeys.

Lesson 7

Meeting The New Monkeys And Learning Some Tricks And Tips From Them

In this final lesson, you meet Terra, Clemie, Felix, Melodie, Indie, and Starry, the six loveable friends that Sock Monkey made to help her tell the world about Monkey Mind, Blue Sky Mind, and True Happiness. Each one of them has its own chakra key, color, and matching clothes. They invite you to have a go at some fun activities and useful tips and tricks to help you to be even happier in every part of your life.

What a breath of fresh air! I loved all the teachings embedded in the story about ‘monkey mind’. The story itself was fun and moving in places.
