Transcript
Welcome to this chakra meditation.
Find a position either lying on a comfortable surface such as your bed or sit upright with the feet in contact with the ground and your spine as straight as possible.
Make sure your body feels well supported in whatever posture you choose.
If you have any injuries or conditions you may want to use extra support.
A pillow under your knees to take the pressure off your back if you are lying down or perhaps a cushion in the small of your back if you are seated.
A blanket or cover for extra warmth.
The base chakra.
Take your attention to the base chakra which is positioned at the very base of the spine in the tailbone.
In the colours on the rainbow spectrum it is usually depicted as red.
If you can do it comfortably place the hands on the base chakra.
The easiest way to do this is with the backs of the hands touching the back side by side or with one on top of the other.
If another position is more comfortable for you or you just want to place your attention here without the hands do this instead.
If you are sitting let your feet on the earth be an anchor for your base chakra.
Take a few minutes to place your attention fully and completely at the base of the spine as if nothing exists except this one place.
Notice any natural sensations here.
Breathe as if you are directing your breath in towards the base chakra and breathe out holding your attention here.
The base chakra governs our connection with the earth,
Our home,
Food,
Security and finances,
Our instinct for survival,
Our stability,
Safety and sense of belonging.
Rest for a while with your attention deep inside the base chakra,
Aware that it is the fundamental building block on which everything else is built.
The sacral chakra.
Shift attention around to the front of your body to the pelvic area and sacral chakra.
Place the hands on either side of the pubic bone with the fingers closed and pointed downwards and inwards or just place your full attention here.
Take time to notice any naturally occurring sensations you can feel.
They might be very subtle or quite vivid.
Let the sacral chakra be as open and as at ease as possible.
Breathe into and out from the centre of the sacral chakra in the rhythm of your normal breathing.
The colour of the sacral chakra is orange.
It governs our desire,
Pleasure,
Self-worth,
Fluidity and how we make sensual and sexual relationships.
Take a few minutes to rest and relax in touch with the sacral chakra.
Feel that the sacral chakra is not separate but connected to the base chakra and let gravity help you to drop deeply through the sacral chakra and into its connection with the base.
The solar plexus chakra.
Now move attention up into the solar plexus which is just above the navel.
If it feels natural and comfortable,
Place the hands on this area with your fingers pointing towards each other across the body.
Otherwise,
Breathe in and out in the rhythm of your normal breathing with your stomach gently rising and falling as you place your whole attention here.
Take time to feel into the sacral chakra.
Notice any natural sensations.
The solar plexus is usually depicted as yellow.
It governs how well we learn to trust our gut instincts,
How we move forward and direct our lives,
Our effectiveness,
Spontaneity,
Agency,
Personal will and non-dominating power.
It is where we experience fight,
Flight or freeze.
Very strong feelings arise here such as fear,
Shock or strong pulsating.
Much like a second heartbeat when we feel something is not safe for us.
If we've had a lot of trauma in our early lives,
We may experience fear as a response to new opportunities even when they could be beneficial for us.
This is because fear has become our default setting.
Giving the solar plexus attention and energy when it needs calming is necessary to help reset this pattern.
When the solar plexus is brought back into balance,
We are again able to feel in our gut when something is good for us and worth pursuing.
It gives us the fire of motivation to take ourselves forward.
Rest here,
Deep inside the solar plexus.
The heart chakra.
Move attention up into the heart chakra in the middle of the chest.
Place the hands on the upper chest if it feels comfortable with the fingers pointing inwards or simply breathe in and out as you hold your attention at the heart center.
Feel into it and become aware of any sensations here.
There are three chakras below and three above the heart chakra which makes it the central one.
In a very real way,
The heart holds the key to the balance of the others.
Everything is taken in and digested through the heart.
Its color is depicted as green.
It governs our ability to connect through the heart with other beings,
Human and non-human,
To express compassion,
Empathy,
Friendliness and loving-kindness.
Although it is the energy center of love,
This is not just the romantic or excited emotions.
Most often associated with love,
But also something much deeper.
A balanced heart chakra allows us to maintain a deep sense of peace and tranquility.
Allow the heart center to be as spacious as possible.
Let the muscles around it be soft.
Be aware of the ribcage protecting your heart.
And check to make sure your posture is still feeling comfortable and your back well supported.
Take time to breathe in and out with your heart in the rhythm of your normal breathing.
The throat chakra.
Now take attention up into the throat.
Into the very center of the throat area.
Place your hands so that they are cradling the throat on either side of it,
With the sides of the hands resting on your collarbones.
Be very careful not to put any pressure on the throat.
If you prefer,
Just place your full awareness here.
Be conscious of any sensations that are present.
The color of the throat chakra on the rainbow spectrum is blue.
It governs our communication,
Self-expression,
Creativity,
Our voice.
The words we choose to give the feelings of our heart full and true expression,
Including speaking up on our own behalf.
It is associated with expressing honestly what we need and want,
So our no is no and our yes is yes.
A balanced throat chakra allows us to speak our truth with kindness,
Clarity and confidence and to create from the wellspring of our imaginings.
Silence is also an important capacity of the throat chakra.
Sometimes we need to spend periods of time in silence to find our throat chakra's balance.
Not strained or suppressed silence,
But a rich visceral silence from which our deepest insights arise.
Take time to breathe in and out of the center of the throat chakra.
Notice if the sensations here change as you give it energy and attention.
The third eye chakra The third eye is positioned just above the middle of the two eyebrows on the forehead.
If it feels comfortable,
Place the palms of your hands over the eyes with your fingers pointing upwards,
Which will also cover the third eye chakra.
If you prefer,
Just bring your whole attention here,
In between the two eyebrows.
Tune into any naturally arising sensations.
Direct the stream of your breath in its normal rhythm into and out from the third eye.
Sometimes called the eye of wisdom,
This chakra is the doorway through which inspiration and deeper understanding enter.
It governs intuition,
Which is a form of instinctual knowing.
The solar plexus was linked to our primal gut instinct for survival.
The third eye chakra is linked to the brain,
The prefrontal cortex and our executive functioning.
It mediates the information we have available to us when we are relaxed and functioning at our highest level of consciousness.
When our thinking mind is quiet,
Our most creative ideas and intuitions seem to arise by themselves.
Information that we need flashes into our mind to be used later.
When in balance,
It allows us to see the bigger picture and opens us to the spiritual significance,
Meaning and purpose of our lives.
Its colour is usually depicted as purple.
Let the face,
Forehead and eyes soften as you rest attention in the third eye.
Just as the physical eyes see what they need to see in front of them.
With the eyes closed,
The third eye can see what is most needed for our lives.
The crown chakra.
Finally,
Bring attention to the crown chakra,
Which is positioned slightly above the top of the head.
It governs our connection to the spiritual realm,
The mystery of life and existence,
Source consciousness,
Pure awareness and the unity of all things.
It is where the life force enters the body like a non-physical breath.
This energy circulates through the body and is distributed through the network of meridians which feed the chakra centres.
It is depicted as violet,
Gold or white.
Take your attention here into the midst of the crown chakra.
Without placing the hands there this time.
Direct the stream of your breath in its normal rhythm into and out from the crown chakra.
Rest your attention here for a while,
Letting its light bathe your whole being.
Now take your hands and full attention back to your heart centre.
Spend a few minutes to relax,
Rest and breathe here.
Now breathe with an awareness of all the chakras together.
Notice any after-echoes of the time you have spent with them.
Remember in this period of quiet if sensations in any of them were particularly vivid.
Or if any of the chakras seemed to want your attention when you were with them more than the others.
Notice if that is still the case now and do a short scan of the chakras to assist your memory.
Note to yourself that you might want to take time later to give them extra attention and energy.
Perhaps you intuitively felt or saw things you can change in your everyday life to support the chakras that are in need of it.
Especially those that are overstimulated or a little sluggish.
Once you have noted these observations and reflections to yourself,
Settle back into the body and breathe at peace and at ease with yourself and chakras.
Become aware of the physical body again now,
Perhaps moving the fingers and toes,
Stretching in whatever way you need to.
With a soft focus,
Gently open your eyes and become aware of the room.
Remain on your back or roll onto your side for a few minutes.
Rest with the tranquility and balance you have generated during this time.
