Key Objectives: - Define Mindfulness - Mindfulness and Neuroplasticity - Basics of Brain Anatomy - Mindfulness and the Brain - Mindfulness, the Brain, and Athletics - Additional Mindfulness Benefits in Sport - Benefits of Mindfulness in and Out of the Competitive Arena

Meet your Teacher

Theresa is a physician assistant, certified mindfulness meditation teacher, and former elite and collegiate gymnast. Her background in medicine has sparked an interest in the neurophysiology of mindfulness practices. She has read and researched the benefits of mindfulness on the brain and how those brain changes translate into improved well-being and performance. Prior to becoming a physician assistant and mindfulness teacher, she was a gymnast for 21 years. She earned her spot on the 1995 Bronze medal World Championship Team, and then became the official alternate for the 1996 Olympics. After two ACL tears in her knees which derailed her Olympic dreams, she competed for the University of Utah, becoming a 2-time NCAA Balance Beam Champion and NCAA All-Around champion. She completed her career as a 14-time All-American and one of the Top Eight Student-Athletes alongside Eli Manning. Although she loved gymnastics, she struggled in many ways. She is now 20+ years removed from the sport and wishes she would have had the tools of mindfulness and self-compassion as an athlete. This is a course for athletes but also their coaches and parents. She believes in the power of self-awareness that is rooted in compassion, and she teaches you how to access this in a way that optimizes performance and overall well-being in all areas of life, sports and beyond.
