Increase Your Nature Connection: A 7-Day Nature Connection Series

With Maria MC

This series will introduce you to the "Sit Spot" practice. This is often used within Nature & Forest Bathing experiences and is often described as a practice within a practice. Ideally, you will spend 20 minutes a day within the same place in Nature each day. You own designated place can be developed in any area from a park, woodland, beach to your own garden. The main elements are that it is in Nature, is accessible everyday with ease and both feels and is safe for you. Each day you will be provided with a new invitation to help you develop your own "Sit Spot" practice. The focus for this specific series is to increase our stillness and calm within.

This first lesson is an overview of the practice and suggestions of how your own designated area to sit may look like. It gives you an opportunity to set your special space before starting the first session.

Lesson 2

Pleasures of Presence

Our first invitation is a guided senses awareness. We suggest that you listen to the first part and then bring your phone or audio device to your Sit Spot with you and listen to the recording to be guided through your senses whilst in Nature.

Lesson 3

Sense of Hearing

This practice requires attention to truly hear what is going on around you - we spend our lives with so much noise around us that we have learnt not to acknowledge most of it. It invites you to focus on the natural sounds that surround us.

Lesson 4

Seasonal Breathing

We will introduce you to a practice called staying in breath or seasonal breathing. This utilises the seasons of the year to help focus our breath. Every cycle of focussed breath will help to balance our nervous system.

Lesson 5

What's in Motion

What's in motion is an invitation that we always use in Forest Bathing. When we slow down, we have the opportunity of noticing and observing so much that we had not even seen in the past. This invitation helps you to focus on just this.

Lesson 6

Just Be

This session sounds easier than it actually is. Simply to sit and be, do nothing. When we lead busy lives and always on the go, actually sitting and doing nothing for 20 minutes can be quite challenging.

Lesson 7

Sit Spot Map

Today is about increasing our connection with our special designated area. The invitation is in two parts, the first part to observe your area and the second to spend some time to draw your own map.

Lesson 8

Finding The Aliveness Within

So far this week we have focussed on the nature around us, today we change the focus to our own true nature and the subtle movements and signs that let us feel our own aliveness from within. These can be from the smallest flutter to pulsations.

I loved the concepts introduced in this course: both the idea of a sit spot in nature and the techniques to use whilst sitting there. It’s worth mentioning for others considering this course that each recording sets you up with the technique for that session, but then leaves you to stay and meditate after the recording ends. My personal preference when listening to a guided meditation is to be guided throughout, from beginning to end.

I loved the concepts introduced, but I wish more of it was actual guided meditations, not just instructions
