Alan Watts once said, “Allowed anxiety is no longer anxiety.” I believe this to be deeply true, but to put this saying into practice is much easier said than done. It may even be one of the hardest things to do, to actually, genuinely, allow my anxiety to be here. I may attempt to accept it in order to get rid of it, but then, I am not truly accepting it. This five-session course is meant to help you realize the true meaning of Allowing, of Openness, and thus move into a new relationship with “anxiety" in which the word may not even make sense anymore, or find a whole new definition. You may already know the path through anxiety lies in its acceptance, but your body may not believe it yet. I’ll share my training and experience in the worlds of psychology, philosophy, and spirituality, and my own personal experience with crippling social anxiety, to help your body believe and feel, that Allowing is the way. In the first three sessions, you will receive a core message, an experiential practice based on that message, and a takeaway lesson to play with in your life. And in the final two sessions, we will focus on practices to help you extend this course to daily living.
