10 Daily Principles For Mindful Living

With Charles Freligh

How do you find happiness and contentment in life? The answer may be found in the way you approach one day. Utilize these 10 principles as a guide for optimizing the way you live a single, meaningful, and authentic day, from morning until night.

Meet your Teacher

Charles has a PhD in clinical psychology, training and experience in providing psychotherapy and life coaching, and is an explorer of meditation and consciousness. He has experience leading in-person and online mindfulness and meditation courses for a variety of audiences including college students, military personnel, athletes, and the general community. He has also published original research in the peer-reviewed journal Mindfulness, writes the Mindful Lens column for Nature’s Best Photography Magazine, and publishes a weekly blog on living well. Each year, he travels to a Zen Buddhist monastery for an opportunity to galvanize his meditation practice and explore his own self-awareness. His goal is to combine his knowledge and experiences from the worlds of psychology, philosophy, and spirituality in order to provide you with a unique training. He believes that nothing is out of bounds in the realm of well-being, and draws upon a variety of sources and traditions within his courses without espousing any particular ideology. Charles hopes to utilize Insight Timer as a space to share, practice, and grow alongside you.

Lesson 1

Introduction & Overview

Charles sets an intention for the course and provides a brief summary of each of the 10 daily principles to be explored in detail in subsequent sessions.

Lesson 2

Waking Up

The way you wake up creates the momentum for the rest of your day, and ultimately for your life. How do you wake up?

Lesson 3

Calibration

If you can imagine your life as like a ship at sea, this principle represents a deep course correction of your ship to begin the day, preparing you to face the unexpected weather of the day ahead and still maintain the underlying meaningful direction of your life.

Lesson 4

Care

Every action offers you the opportunity to show tender care for this one chance to be alive. Today, we discuss the principle of care.

Lesson 5

Authenticity

In order to directly connect with the world, we must take the risk to show the world who we truly are. How do we do that? Let's discuss.

Lesson 6

Reception & Creation

To receive and to create are like the inhale and the exhale - two complementary aspects of the same underlying process. How do you find a balanced wavelength of reception and creation in daily life?

Lesson 7

Noticing

Simply noticing is often the crucial step toward any sort of change. Become clearly aware, without judgment, of your particular habit energy trains and allow them to loosen their grip on your daily life, simply through the act of noticing.

Lesson 8

Movement

Feel your identity not only with the thinking mind, but with all parts of you, and reintegrate what may have become divided inside you through movement practice.

Lesson 9

Loving Connection

What gets in the way of direct loving connection? Today we focus on the importance of taking any opportunity you can to express genuine love for others in your life, as well as yourself.

A well paced and thoughtful course, I did listen to it over the weekend so now I’m going to go back and listen to one a day. I listened as I was going about my day and I think it will be more powerful listening to it in meditation. Planning on starting again with the first one tonight. So many helpful concepts which are pulled together by consistent questions that I found changed each session. Thank you 🙏

My favorite meditation teacher on Insight timer. Great metaphors for conveying profound ideas. Puts Buddhist ideas into his own language and understanding in helpful ways. Brings a psychologists mind to interpreting Buddhism. Usually drops the pretension / "I'm in a Zen state" voice that plagues too many meditation teachers. And clearly spends a lot of time thinking about his practice and how to most coherently and compellingly communicate it. Thank you, Charles Freligh. Appreciate what you are doing.

I will do a point or two to build the habit and then keep adding til they become a routine and embeded in my muscle memory. On day 10 you mention ‘Discipline VS Regret’ is so very true. It will be my mantra to guide me to stay on the path. Thank you, Charles. PS. I like the background noise, it’s calming.

Another incredible course! Charles is a wonderful teacher, his courses are, for me, perfectly paced, structured and delivered. He shares his wisdom in a way that I find both thought provoking and easy to understand/absorb. This course covered some principles that are already well rooted for me, and others that I’m still growing, but either way, each lesson held a huge amount of value. This is a course to re-visit, time and time again. Thank you Charles 🙏🏼

I’m sorry but this was too repetitive for me. Repetition is good when covering deep thoughts that need to be restated and mulled over, but one sentence seemed to be followed by a rephrasing of that previous already understood, simple sentence 2-3 more times, very slowly, like describing how he used to sleep in. I’m looking for deeper content so it was frustrating to feel like I was losing valuable time waiting for something wise and insightful to be said. I don’t want to be hurtful, but putting this out there in case someone else uses reviews to see if a 10-part meditation that is 200 minutes or more is the one they need at the moment. He is a very calm, slow-paced speaker so this might be helpful for someone who needs to hear a calm, soothing voice over 22 minutes or more per session.
