Diffusing Rejection - by Shannon Moyer

COURSE

Diffusing Rejection

With Shannon Moyer

Rejection, as an emotion, is the feeling of being dismissed, unheard, or refused. For those who are sensitive to rejection, it can manifest into feelings of unworthiness, self-gaslighting, people-pleasing, guilt, and shame. Through this course, we will work through these feelings while exploring techniques such as journalling, meditation, challenging intrusive thoughts, and extending compassion to ourselves. Rejection, and the emotions it reveals, is not a character flaw and it does not make you unworthy. Lean in, listen, offer yourself love and grace, rationalize with yourself, and diffuse rejection.

Lesson 1

Cultivating Compassion

Compassion is a foundational feeling that we are all deserving of, and one that is the natural opposite to rejection. In today's lesson, we will spend a few minutes journalling and considering the ways in which we extend compassion to ourselves, then go into a space of meditation to do some affirmation work before returning to our journal and making some final conclusions.

Lesson 2

Catastrophic Thinking

Today we ask ourselves the question "What Evidence Do I Have To Believe This Is True?" while considering situations that have brought forward the feeling of rejection. Through meditation and journalling, we find root attachments and leave the lesson with some homework to extend compassion to ourselves.

Lesson 3

Inner Dialogue

The words with which we use to speak to ourselves when we have recently faced rejection can be quite unkind. In our lesson today, we spend some time in contemplation over the inner dialogue and impact of rejection, then head to the pages of our journal to work through it.

Lesson 4

Circle Of Control

Today we learn about taking accountability for how we arrive into situations, and give context to potential conflict and rejection by using the Circle of Control. This is a helpful tool to use during and after interactions with others when we are left with feelings of rejection, hurt, confusion or unworthiness.

Lesson 5

Today, I Need

Advocating and taking responsibility for our needs is something that gets lost a lot of the time. Society has conditioned us to believe that those closest to us automatically know what we need, but the onus is actually on us to speak up and advocate for those needs. In our final session, we learn about advocacy and consider what it would feel like for those needs to be met.

Thank you. 🙏 That was a very helpful short course that really helps to frame rejection as a 'non personal' thing, with helpful reminders of what we are, and are not, responsible for.
