You are listening to a meditation from Sound Science Soul.
The chanting you hear in the background Aum Ah Hum is a way to purify your environment,
Yourself and all beings or things around you.
Aum represents the body or form,
Ah the speech or essence of sound and Hum the mind.
This meditation is based on the Tibetan practice of Tonglen meditation,
A practice of compassion.
Tonglen means giving and taking or sending and receiving.
It is about exchanging the self with other.
Typically it is used to take in the pain of others and send out whatever will benefit the other.
It can be practiced for someone ill,
Those dying or those who have already died and those who are suffering or in pain of any kind.
Through compassion we take on the suffering of another being,
Their fears,
Pain,
Shame,
Anger,
Regret,
Frustration,
Both emotional and physical sufferings.
Then we give them joy,
Peace,
Love and healing.
Just a warning if you are suffering yourself this practice may prove overwhelming or more upsetting.
Do this only if your own state of mind is prepared for it.
Let's begin.
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
If you're sitting you can sit cross-legged with the backs of your hands resting on your knees,
Your first two fingers touching your thumbs.
And we'll start with six breaths.
Focusing on our breath helps us to slow down and center.
We'll breathe in for a count of six,
Hold for three and breathe out for six.
Let's begin.
Breathing in one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Hold for a count of one,
Two,
Three.
Breathing out for a count of one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
It's okay if you can't breathe in up to six,
Just take in as much breath as you can.
Again breathe in one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Hold one,
Two,
Three.
Breathe out one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Breathe in one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Hold one,
Two,
Three,
Breathe out one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Breathe in one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Hold one,
Two,
Three,
Breathe out one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
