Wind down for sleep This guided meditation is designed to help ready your mind for a peaceful and restful sleep.
Begin by finding a comfortable position in your bed.
As you get comfortable,
Allow your body to sink into the mattress.
Close your eyes gently and take a few deep,
Slow breaths,
Allowing any tension or stress to melt away with each exhale and bring your attention to the sensation of your breath.
Feel the abdomen rise with the in-breath and fall with the out-breath,
All by itself.
As the breath comes in,
Say in your mind rising and as it leaves falling,
Tune in to the sensations of the abdomen rising and falling.
Allow the breath to slow down,
To become more peaceful and have a sense of each breath rippling through the body and calming the mind and will add counting to the breath.
As you breathe in,
Say in your mind 1,
As you breathe out 1,
As you breathe in 2,
As you breathe out 2 and so on,
All the way up to 9.
If you forget the breath you're on,
No problem,
Just start again at 1,
Feeling as much of the breath as you can.
Imagine on the horizon,
A big red sun,
Sinking from the sky,
Out of sight.
Imagine the glow fading,
From red,
To purple,
To black,
As you continue breathing,
Begin to release any lingering thoughts or worries that may be occupying your mind,
Acknowledge them and see them just as clouds,
Passing in a night sky.
If sleep comes,
Allow it.
Focus on the sensation of relaxation spreading throughout your body,
Starting from your toes and slowly move up,
Allowing each muscle to soften and loosen,
Until you reach the top of your head,
Moving in your own time,
Inviting a sense of deep tranquility and comfort.
Repeat the following affirmations after me,
In your mind.
I release all tension and stress from my body and mind.
I release all tension and stress from my body and mind.
I welcome peaceful and rejuvenating sleep.
I welcome peaceful and rejuvenating sleep.
I am grateful for this moment of calm and relaxation.
I am grateful for this moment of calm and relaxation.
And now,
In your own time,
Either surrender to sleep or finish your evening routine.
Sleep well,
In peace.
