Give And You Shall Receive

In today’s lesson, we explore giving and receiving, a paradox that transcends cultures and spiritual texts. Drawing from karma and biblical teachings, you’ll learn to practice non-attachment and how to give from a place of abundance. In our practice, we’ll use the prayer of St Francis and Metta to cultivate loving-kindness and generosity, not just in thought but in action.

Lesson 10

Practicing Better

On Day 10, you will learn the potent nature of shifting from resisting what is bad to championing what is good. Stated best by Father Richard Rohr's adage, "The best criticism of the bad is a practice of the better.” The meditation today invites you to look at your criticisms and understand them as a protective mechanism. You’ll explore the critical parts within yourself, engaging them in conversation to understand their purpose, and then shift focus being the change you seek to make in the world.

Transforming Jealousy

On Day 11, you will learn how jealousy can stifle your growth as a key barrier to happiness and fulfillment. I will share my personal experiences with jealousy and how to notice them when they arise. In our meditation, we will work to notice where this energy is showing up in your life so you can transform it. Rooting for others' success transcends 'you vs. me' thinking, inviting a sense of oneness. By doing so, we shift into an energy of abundance and collective joy.

Clearing Comparison

In today's session, you’ll explore how comparison shows up in your life and look at its potential to disrupt our sense of unity. We will address the habitual patterns of feeling superior or inferior to others and how that creates dissatisfaction and unhappiness. In our meditation, you will practice clearing the one-up one-down comparisons and embrace equality and oneness with all beings.

Lesson 13

Transforming Insecurities

In today's session, you will confront your insecurities head-on and learn where you might be projecting your feelings onto the world. We explore the roots of insecurity, often tracing back to childhood experiences, and recognize the power of owning and transforming these projections. Through guided meditation, you move through a unique exercise to find an insecure shadow part of you. Once you recognize it, you can then work to shift its energy and integrate its lesson.

Lesson 14

Releasing Judgement

On Day 14, you’ll look at the places in which you find yourself judging yourself or others. Well, use the board game Boggle as an analogy that shows how each person has their own perspective. Our work is to first seek to understand them rather than to judge. To do this, we’ll work with the phrase, "It must Make Sense." The meditation will focus on softening judgment towards others and oneself, deepening into understanding and compassion.

Zone 2 Training

Day 15's lesson draws inspiration from Zone 2 training, an exercise method that emphasizes the importance of pacing oneself for long-term endurance. This approach is a metaphor for life, illustrating how often we sprint through our days. Today you will highlight the areas you are speeding through life and practice slowing down so you can speed up. The meditation will help you cherish the present, absorb life's experiences more deeply, and embrace a more sustainable pace for long-term fulfillment and joy.

Fulfilled At Your Core

On day 16, I share a personal transformative experience to help describe the essence of fulfillment. The lesson re-emphasizes that true fulfillment and peace arise from within, not external achievements or validations. In our meditation, you will work to recognize and remove your internal blockages to fulfillment, reinforcing the realization that we are inherently complete and connected to a greater whole.

The Power Of Acceptance

Today's lesson invites you to embrace the art of acceptance, a crucial step for lasting happiness. We explore the concept that everything, including our perceived flaws and challenges, is inherently perfect. This session guides you through recognizing and releasing resistance to life's flow and uncovering the peace that comes from accepting things as they are. We’ll glean wisdom from Parahmahsa Yogananda and Joseph Campbell to accept perfection amidst imperfection.

I share a personal story about a rain jacket that is an example of our tendency to yearn for what we don't have. This session invites us to examine areas of our lives where we feel discontent or engage in comparisons, urging us to shift our focus from wanting to appreciating. Through meditation, we explore the richness of gratitude, recognizing the beauty and fullness in our lives.

Seek Meaning

In the last lesson of our journey, we explore the profound shift from seeking happiness to seeking meaning. You will work to live the view that life itself is our greatest teacher and learn to embrace every experience as an opportunity for growth. By perceiving life's challenges as lessons, we cultivate inner strength and confidence, turning obstacles into opportunities. This final meditation invites us to honor our journey, growth, and our 'garden of happiness,' recognizing that true fulfillment lies in the meaning we assign to our life's events.

This was such an interesting and engaging course for me. It covers many aspects of the development in finding the happiness that is all around and inside. I liked the pace at which it sort of refocused throughout. Never a dull moment, as they say. Also for me, an incredible exercise in a creative process, pulling out of me my own interpretation and thoughts in a gentle way. Also a very relatable revelation part way through when Lou spoke about the first time he was so deeply affected in meditation. No spoiler alert here. You will get it when you hear it. The course is excellent, I have finished day 21 and I believe it is changing my life. The course did not evolve at all in the way I expected, but it is much the better for that. Lou is a great teacher, sharing himself openly. I believe he has also studied a lot and many times he refers to or quotes teachings with attribution to where ideas come from. Some days of meditation it was surprising how relevant the flow was to my daily struggles, showing how to turn challenge into growth. Thankyou for helping me see, learn, experience and grow.
