Meet Your Emotions With Courage And Confidence

With David Longhini

The way to accept yourself as you are is as simple (and scary) as it sounds. To accept yourself as you are means accepting all of yourself. The repressed and avoided emotions. The parts that hold ourselves back. The pieces that hold onto uncomfortable relationships because they feel like home. We spend so much of our lives trying to shame, guilt, and manipulate ourselves into changing because we don't like those parts. But I've learned that if you take the time to understand and love those parts the change happens all on it's own. With it comes a new discovery of life with the full breadth of your emotional color palette. I'd love for you to join us on that journey.

Meet your Teacher

I'm David Longhini, a meditation and awakening teacher who's lived what he speaks. I've traveled the world, explored various traditions from Hindu Ashrams to Buddhist Temples to Amazon Medicine Circles learning from various teachers. I've practiced with leading coaches and read and experimented with many practices. All that leads to the self-knowledge of existence and the ability to speak to the core in between all traditions to lead you home. I retired from my business career early to explore life and dedicate myself to co-creating a more beautiful world. By following these practices with me, I hope you'll free yourself and be able to join me on that path.

Lesson 1

Emotions Are Freedom

We explore the significance of embracing our emotions rather than resisting them. I discuss how avoiding feelings like anger and sadness can lead to a loss of personal power and life experiences. By acknowledging and accepting our emotions, we can set boundaries, communicate effectively, and lead a more fulfilling life.

Lesson 2

Why Do You Avoid Your Emotions

There's a good reason we avoid our emotions. If we don't recognize this, we won't have the courage to release our resistance. So here we explore all of the reasons you might have negative associations to the emotions we're going to be feeling together.

Lesson 3

How Your Mind & Body Get In The Way

There are obstacles on the path to feeling all of your emotions. But they are the same obstacles we created ourselves. So they cannot stop us, but they will try. Not because we're on the wrong path, but because we told them to. So it's best to be aware of it before starting.

Lesson 4

How We Avoid Our Emotions

We have certain strategies for avoiding our emotions. Ways in which we craft our life in order to keep ourselves from experiencing these emotions. Avoiding situations, people, scenarios where it might happen. Feeling different emotions instead. Telling ourselves different stories so we'll feel a *different* emotion than that one.

Lesson 5

What Will You Get When You Feel Your Emotions Again

This work can be uncomfortable and scary. So what's the reward? What's the reason for you to practice and experience and do this work? What benefit are you hoping to receive? These are the things that I ask for you to hold close. Because they will give you the courage to do so.

Lesson 6

Emotional Inquiry - Feel It In Your Body

As counterintuitive as it sounds the most important step is to allow yourself to experience your emotion. To separate it from the thoughts about the emotion or situation and the resistance or tension tied to it. We want to be able to practice recognizing an emotion as a "feeling" one which we're directly feeling in our body. That way we can learn to experience it and let it flow through without resistance.

Lesson 7

Emotional Processing - Move Your Body To The Emotion

The second most important way is to allow the emotion to move us, literally. Emotions are energy in motion. They encourage us to *do* something. So some emotions are best felt through a physical experience that it's asking us to have. It may ask us to curl into a ball and cry. It may ask us to hold ourselves tight. It may ask us to scream or punch or run or move. But learning to distinguish avoidance and resistance versus the genuine expression of the emotion can allow us to feel it regularly.

Lesson 8

Emotional Visualization - Having A Conversation With Yourself

Our emotions don't stop with our bodies. Our mind tells stories and certain thoughts are tied to emotions. We wrap up prior experiences with prior feelings and form beliefs around them. So to truly recognize our emotions from all sides, we must stop to examine the beliefs, stories, and thoughts that come up related to the emotion.

Lesson 9

Emotional Journalling - Write About It As Fast As You Can

Another of the best ways to experience emotions is to write about it. This serves several functions. It gives us momentum to feel the emotion. It slows it down to the pace that we can write. It gives us the opportunity to edit and understand what's happening. It also distracts our mind just enough to let it happen.

Lesson 10

Emotional Embracing - Bringing Love To The Emotion

The last thing to bring ourselves to wholeness is to love our emotion as it is, for what it gives us. The reason we struggle is we learned that this emotion would lead to a loss of love or experience of pain. So we learned to shun the emotion. So in order to become whole again we must re-associate the emotion with love. So we choose to see how this emotion is serving us.

Lesson 11

Closing - Emotional Yoga

This unfortunately cannot be done one time. But fortunately, every time you do it and with every subsequently unlocked emotion, life feels more vibrant. So we choose to keep practicing and keep carving out our edges until we truly do love and experience all of our emotions. So make emotional yoga a part of your daily routine.
