Prioritizing Sleep - by Eric Spirko

COURSE

Prioritizing Sleep

With Eric Spirko

Like a pilot following a protocol to land their high-performance aircraft smoothly onto the ground, you’ll build a “sleep flight plan” to become aware of the distractions that get in the way of getting great sleep, and put into place activities that will help “land the plane” of sleep for a smooth, on-time arrival into sleep. We'll optimize your sleep environment, build consistency, and optimize the relationship with light in order to make our external environment most supportive of prioritizing sleep. This 5-part course will take you through the steps required to build your Sleep Flight Plan to help prioritize sleep.

Lesson 1

Your Mission Plan

Whatever your life goals, sleep can help you achieve them. Sleep impacts nearly every single physiological function, so take a look at all the things that sleep can positively impact and reflect on how those will translate to achieving your goals. When life gets hard and you’re tempted to abandon this plan, your mission plan can be the north start that keeps you on track prioritizing your sleep.

Lesson 3

Taking-Off

How we start the day directly impacts how we sleep at night. Waking up at a different times each day results in getting sleepy at different times. This can make it hard to sleep, because we aren’t tired when we should be or want to be. Our high-performance mind-body machines thrive with consistency, and predictability. In this lesson we will talk about how to start the day with consistency.

Lesson 4

Taking-Off Part II

In this lesson we will discuss the huge impact that natural sunlight can have on our sleep at night. We'll look at how our human biology is not ideal for our current modern environment, and some tools and practices we can use to help mitigate this.

Lesson 5

Landing Protocol

Landing requires that we ease down to the ground. We can’t just fall straight down to land, and we can’t just fall right into bed to sleep. We need to plan for the 30-60 minutes before sleep to ensure a smooth and on-time landing into bed. In this lesson we'll build our own landing protocol and identify our own personal hazards that get in the way of our sleep and trigger alertness.

Interesting course, nice short lessons. A lot of things I kinda knew but it’s good to have the positive reinforcement, and a good way to package that up to be actionable
