Empowerment Through Healthy Self-Esteem

Learn strategies to cultivate healthy self-esteem, improve your confidence, emotional and mental health, and therefore your well-being. To do this, we will use reflections, meditations, and paper and pencil exercises. During this 10-session course, we will explore the different aspects surrounding self-esteem, gaining insight into how they are affecting our daily life. We will also learn strategies to boost our self-esteem, so we can shine and become a better, happier, and more confident version of ourselves. We will use methods based on neuroscience, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and self-compassion.


Meet your Teacher

EQness is led by Dr. Olga-Lucia Gamboa-Arana Ph.D., a cognitive neuroscientist with more than a decade of expertise in the field of brain stimulation and neuroimaging. She also has a specialization in emotional intelligence, is a teacher of mindfulness. self-compassion, and mindful eating. Part of her research is dedicated to understanding how the brain forgets painful memories, a process essential for our wellbeing and that seems to be faulty in pathologies where intrusive thoughts are an issue.

The Key To Our Happiness

We all want to be happy, but sometimes we don't know how! This can be in part because we do not know what we want in life or what values are ruling our lives. Not having this clarified promotes patterns of behavior that cause pain and suffering. During this session, we will try to identify our values and how close they are to the values that move our hearts and how far they are from the life we want to have.

Lesson 3

The Impact Of Thinking & Speaking Negatively About Myself

More often than not, the opinion others have about us has a strong effect on us. However, we do not take into account that what we think about ourselves has a greater impact. We seem to ignore that the way we perceive ourselves will determine how well or bad we will do in life. During this session, we will be talking about the basis of our self-concept.

Conditional Self-Acceptance: Being My Enemy Number One

The ambiguous assessments we make about ourselves and our hard self-judgment really interfere with the process of accepting ourselves as we really are. In this session, we will reflect on this effect and talk about what can we do to work on our ability to accept ourselves unconditionally.

Doubts & Dignity: Trusting & Respecting Myself

There are times when we have trouble moving forward and this may be due to our doubts regarding our suitability to do things. This lack of confidence seriously damages our self-respect. In this session, we will get in touch with the concepts of self-confidence and self-respect, two fundamental aspects of healthy self-esteem.

False Beliefs: Identifying My Self-Defeating Thinking

Most of our emotions and behaviors are determined by our particular way of evaluating the events that caused them. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the content and quality of our thoughts. In this session, we will explore those false beliefs that sabotage our self-esteem.

Lesson 7

Self - Compassion: “Selfishness” That Leads To Wellbeing

We have learned that putting ourselves first is somehow shameful and that the correct way is to act so that others are happy and free of suffering. This prevents us from being compassionate with ourselves even if we are going through tough times because there is always someone else that may need our attention. In this session, we will explore the path of self-compassion and how from this compassionate "selfishness", our compassion towards others gets strengthened.

Assertiveness: Exercising My Right To Say No!

Saying No! can be very difficult at times. This inability is based on the fear of being rejected, excluded, or confronted. We do not realize that our lack of assertiveness is very damaging because it does not only create immediate discomfort but also long-term resentments. In this session, we will come into contact with assertiveness and the benefits of making it part of our daily lives.

The Role Of Others In My Low Self-Esteem

We have the perception that others have an important role in our level of self-esteem. An ambiguous strange gesture, a phrase pronounced in a neutral tone or with the wrong combination of words can lower the level of our self-esteem on the spot, causing pain and suffering. During this session, we will reflect on the effect others have on our self-esteem levels, as well as the role we have in the self-esteem of others.

Crafting Wellbeing: 8 Strategies For The Development And Maintenance Of A Healthy Self-Esteem

Many people would like to find the spell that would make low self-esteem, unhappiness, and suffering disappear with a snap of the fingers. However, healthy self-esteem, happiness, and peace require time and dedication. During this last session, we will talk about different resources to cultivate and maintain healthy self-esteem levels that will help us live our lives with more confidence and authenticity.
