Kids: Learn To Meditate

This free 5 day course is lead by expert Mindfulness teacher – and Dad extraordinaire – Andy Hobson. Over the next 5 days, kids have the opportunity to explore working with their breath and dealing with overactive thoughts, managing sad or uncomfortable feelings, learning how to be more kind to themselves and, most importantly, how to let go and slow down. Each lesson is between 5-12 minutes, making them perfect to squeeze into your day.


Meet your Teacher

Andy’s vision is to create a happier, kinder, more conscious world through teaching meditation to adults and children. Since starting to teach in 2010, he has helped countless people around the world through his online guided meditations, courses and schools mindfulness programme. Andy draws upon many traditions, philosophies, therapeutic approaches and his personal meditation practice to teach how we can return to our true nature, free ourselves from the voice in our head and find lasting happiness, purpose and freedom. He trained to teach mindfulness based stress reduction in 2010 at the Centre for Mindfulness, Research and Practice at Bangor University, UK – an international centre for excellence in mindfulness training. Since then he has run local mindfulness based stress reduction and mindfulness based cognitive therapy courses in London. Andy also has a Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling Skills from the BACP approved Manor House Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Intermediate Diploma in Therapeutic Communications with Children from the London Metropolitan University. Before becoming a meditation teacher, Andy worked as a professional drummer. He found his dream job of playing music, touring the world and even meeting some of his musical heroes. After a couple of years he started to feel a dissatisfaction with his job, the initial shine of the rockstar life started to wear off and it felt like something big was missing. To understand this dissatisfaction Andy began to explore a number of spiritual traditions and philosophies and committed to a daily meditation practice. Over time he began to experience a greater sense of calm, contentment and happiness. A whole new world opened up. Having experienced the benefits of meditation Andy felt it was important to teach this life changing practice to others.

Lesson 1

Learning The Basics

Today, Andy will take us through a step-by-step guide for learning how to meditate. Together, we will explore how you can use your breath and imagination to help you to relax and feel more calm, even when you have lots of thoughts in your head. Get ready to go on a journey up into the sky!

Lesson 2

Cloud Gazing

Today you’ll learn a gentle meditation that will help you see your thoughts more clearly. Together, we will learn to watch our thoughts, the same way we might watch clouds passing by. This can be a very helpful tool when it comes to managing those worried, angry and, sometimes, unkind thoughts that can go round and round in our heads.

Lesson 3

Finding Feelings

Today you’ll learn helpful ways to feel more calm and peaceful when you have strong feelings like anger, sadness, fear or worry. When we have a thought about something it can create a feeling inside our body. Feelings can sometimes make us feel unsettled or just a bit wobbly. In our meditation today, you'll be encouraged to notice where feelings show up in your body, get to know them in a new way and use your breath to help calm them a little. Doing this can help you have more understanding of your feelings, give you some space to respond to them and let them naturally settle when they’re ready.

Lesson 4

A Happy Heart

Today we’ll explore the importance of self kindness. Sometimes we judge ourselves unfairly, comparing ourselves to other people like friends, family and successful people on the internet. Doing this doesn’t make us feel great and can limit what we think we’re capable of. Your meditation today is about self kindness, kindness to others and remembering that you are awesome no matter what your mind thinks. You can always be yourself without having to try to be someone you're not, please anyone or achieve anything. Today is all about you being you, just as you are.

Lesson 5

Beach Chillin

In the last lesson of this course you’ll learn about the importance of pausing and taking time out to relax. Life as a kid can get pretty busy and sometimes we can feel the pressure. After all, you have school, homework, school tests, friends to figure out, and adults telling you what and what not to do so it’s important to slow down and have some YOU time. In our visualisation meditation today you’re going to take a trip to the beach to do just one thing...chill out. We’ll end the session with a short piece of information on how to keep going with meditation and how to make it work for you. Everyone is different and some meditation styles will be more helpful to us than others. Congratulations on completing this 5 day adventure into meditation. Well done!
