Though we cannot control our external world of chaos, we must practice controlling our inner worlds. In this course, we will examine ourselves and our response to uncertainty and become clear on the practices that we need in order to embrace the unknown.


Meet your Teacher

As a 200 hr meditation teacher and wellness artist, Dora Kamau uses meditation as a tool to awaken individuals to experience who they are. Impenetrable and unshaken by the qualms of life, Dora utilizes her own lived experiences to share and host in-person and online gatherings for women to connect through the power of intentional and meaningful conversations. Aside from meditation, Dora is a registered psychiatric nurse that integrates holistic, trauma-informed practices for women living with substance dependence and addiction in Vancouver, BC.

Lesson 1

Cultivating Awareness

We begin with awareness. Awareness is the transformational point of all change. Awareness brings insight and can provide us with a foundation from which we can create more sustainable self-care practices in the face of uncertainty. In this lesson, we identify how we define uncertainty and where and how we feel when uncertainty arises using meditation and mindfulness.

Lesson 2

Awareness In Practice

In this lesson, we continue on with the discussion of awareness, but shift our focus to our current self-care practices. What do we do in the face of uncertainty? How do we tend to ourselves? Using meditation, we cultivate loving awareness, so that we can create a baseline and understanding of where we are starting from. With this insight, we can become aware of what has been holding us back and how we can use this to propel us forward.

Lesson 3

Accepting Uncertainty

Acceptance encourages us to embrace the fullness of our realities. As we navigate uncertainty, we must be willing to accept our realities as they are, so we can be empowered and active in the roles that we play in befriending the unknown. Acceptance of who we are, where we are, and what we are facing equips us to create more intentional and practical self-care practices.

Practicing Acceptance

Acceptance and awareness are the foundational building blocks to create sustainable, practical, and nourishing self-care practices. What does it look like to practice acceptance in the midst of uncertainty? We unpack this self-care practice with affirmations and a compassion-based practice that provides us with the space to honor and accept the totality of our experiences.

Lesson 5

Accountability

Our responsibility is our respond-ability. How we choose to respond or react in the face of uncertainty is our personal responsibility that only we can be held accountable for. In this lesson, we are invited to move from away from powerlessness and into a more empowered state of being.

Creating An Accountability & Action Plan

Lesson 7

Rethinking Resistance

Resistance arises when it's time to do the work. It's the internal struggle we face when we know and sense that success is around the corner. What stops us from moving forward? Self-sabotage? Doubt? Rationalization? Procrastination? Being able to identify where and how resistance shows up in our life can allow us to meet it with compassion and continue on our path. In this lesson, we explore resistance and its origins, with hopes of dispelling its power when learning to embrace uncertainty.

Our Ability To Adapt

Our ability to shapeshift, transform, and maneuver skillfully in the face of uncertainty and in the face of change is required now more than ever. In this lesson, we explore the importance of adaptability when it's time for change, we unpack the characteristics of an adaptable individual and are invited to envision what it would look like to be adaptable, utilizing meditation.

Lesson 9

Holding Space For Vulnerability

One of our greatest strengths as individuals is our ability to be vulnerable. Our ability to take risks when we have no control over the outcome. So what stops us from being seen? What prevents us from making mistakes and asking for help? This lesson provides us with the chance to practice vulnerability in the face of uncertainty. Being vulnerable is a self-care practice that requires great courage but can give birth to new experiences, as long as we are willing to take that first step.

Lesson 10

Practicing Gratitude

Gratitude connects us to the fullness of life as it is. When faced with uncertainties and unexpected outcomes, we tend to catastrophize our fears. But what would it look like if we were to, instead, magnify our blessings? In this last lesson, I invite you to appreciate what is, what we have, and all that we are. A consistent practice of gratitude aligns us with the abundance of life, which is readily available, as long as we are receptive.

Dora did a great job expound how to care for ourselves during uncertain times. Although she didn't tell us what to do she gave us the tools so we would know what to do to care for ourselves because we are unique& self-care isn't one size first all.
