In this 10-day course, you will learn how to maximize your study time and exam performance. You will learn the principles of learning and how to apply them, as well as how to establish a study routine that you can stick to. You will be given in-depth instructions and case studies that highlight a multitude of different approaches and encouraged to experiment to find what works for you. This course will supercharge your ability to learn, giving you the tools, tips, and tricks necessary to not only make the content stick to your brain but also to make you understand it on a deep level. Meet your Teacher

Zachary Phillips is a poet, author, meditation instructor, and mindset coach. He is also a qualified teacher, Reiki master, and is currently studying a Master of Counselling. In these roles he helps people identify and release the limiting beliefs that no longer serve them, guiding them from surviving to passionately thriving using tips, tools, and techniques that enable them to process the past, accept the present, and embrace the future with positivity and purpose.

Myths & Misconceptions

This lesson will primarily focus on breaking down the common myths and misconceptions that surround study and learning in general. It discusses how it is possible for everyone to learn, provided they approach the subject in a way that best works for them. It will shed light on why some students struggle to remember much of anything from a study session, and why some students seem to remember everything. By the end of this lesson, you will feel confident in your ability to learn, as well as have some insights into the best ways to approach your future study sessions.

The Principles Of Learning

This lesson will cover the core principles of learning. Highlighting the aspects of studying that hold true for all people. It discusses the importance of repetition and study time, highlighting the benefits of going beyond the textbook and into other mediums. It highlights the impact of stress on exam performance as well as how to overcome it. It also discusses how we can use framing and other tools to positively impact our retention and performance. By the end of this lesson, you will have a solid grasp of what is necessary for you to do in order to learn any subject.

Lesson 3

Ace Your Exams

This lesson dives into test-taking and end-of-year exams, focusing on the best ways to maximize performance. It discusses how to both prepare for a test, and how to go about completing them. It highlights the importance of understanding the marking criteria, as well as your teacher‘s innate biases, and then how to use that knowledge to your advantage. By the end of this lesson, you will have a solid grasp of what you need to do in order for your test performance to reflect your capabilities as a student.

Lesson 4

Study Smart

This lesson breaks down why you need to do more than just read the textbook if you want to do well. It introduces the concept of the learning pyramid: the idea that discussing, doing, and teaching are far more effective approaches to learning than merely reading a book, or attending a lecture. It also highlights the importance of focusing your efforts on your weakest areas first, as doing so will provide you with the maximum benefit for your time. By the end of this lesson, you will know why and how to engage with content on a deep level, as well as understand the potential traps that students fall into when they exclusively focus on revising their best areas.

Study Routines & Habit Formation

This lesson will focus on the establishment of a study routine. It will discuss the practical considerations necessary to ensure that you are able to study, without falling into distractions or burnout. This lesson builds on Day 5, delving into how to stay focused, as well as some of the common time sinks we can fall into. It discusses the importance of minimizing distractions, highlighting how small lapses add up and cost reset time. It also breaks down the ideal duration of studying, one that optimizes your time without burning you out. By the end of this lesson, you will know the best ways to utilize your newly created study routine.

Different Approaches To Study

This lesson introduces four case studies of real students, highlighting the importance of focusing on your unique learning style. It provides examples of a multitude of different approaches to learning that whilst different from the traditional models, are still just as, if not more, effective. By the end of this lesson, you will understand the need to personalize how you study, and have a multitude of examples of how to go about doing so.

Cue Cards & Other Tools

This is the first of two lessons that break down some of the more traditional approaches to study. It will go in-depth on how to create and use cue cards, as well as how to effectively boost the knowledge gained from rote learning. It also emphasizes the importance of practice exams – namely you want to ensure that you have as much experience as possible before the real thing. By the end of this lesson, you will have a solid grasp on the use of cue cards, rote learning, and be motivated to complete some practice exams.

Memory Tricks

This is the second lesson that breaks down some of the more traditional approaches to study, It introduces a collection of mnemonics – that is memory tricks that can be used to remember a collection of disconnected and boring content. It also highlights the tools of mind maps for visual students, as well as provides ideas on ways to gamify learning to make study more fun and engaging. By the end of this lesson, you will have some good ways to remember facts, figures, dates, and definitions.

Bringing It All Together

This lesson provides a recap of the entirety of this course. It puts it all into context and emphasizes the key takeaways and things that you should focus on. It will serve as a reminder, one that you can go back to again and again in order to ensure that you are continuing to maximize your study time.
