For the rest of the day, when you notice an intense emotion, thought, mood, memory, or other mental phenomena, take one mindful breath. That is a long, slow, deep breath, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Then recognise that you are, at any time, free to make a different decision should you choose to do so. Give it a try.

We practice our mindfulness meditation every day,

Not to get better at meditating,

But to bring the benefits of our meditation off the mat and into our daily lives.

So with that in mind,

For the rest of the day,

I want you to just note your mental state.

If you notice that you have a strong thought or emotion or mood,

Maybe you feel angry or resentful or jealous or attracted or elated,

Just any strong mood,

Emotion,

Memory,

Thought,

Positive or negative,

When you notice that,

Before you act or speak,

Just take an internal step back and detach and take one mindful breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.

And then from that detached perspective,

Realize that you're free to make a different decision,

Should you choose to do so.

Have a great day.

This is short but I repeat it over and over as the concept seems so simple but I find I need to hear it on repeat to really absorb it. I highly recommend it, especially if you tend to have panic attacks. 🙏🏻 Thank you!
