Cultivating Self-Compassion & Resilience

With Pasha Lyndi

Would you like to feel strong, courageous, self-loving and confident, despite the ups and downs of life? Life can be so unpredictable and when the going gets tough, we really need our inner reserves of strength and compassion. We’ll tap into the deep wellspring of confidence and upskill our mindfulness, self-compassion, and inner resilience in a series of guided meditations, reflections, stories, and journalling. Every day includes scientific research and tips for integrating these qualities into our day. There are also opportunities to ask your questions and connect with our community. We will learn how to listen deeply to ourselves and our needs, practise mindfulness and self-care, build courage and confidence, and how to be kind and compassionate to ourselves. We will also discover how let go of comparison, perfectionism and unachievable expectations; and accept ourselves and our situation. We will learn how to soothe anxiety and calm the nervous system, develop a resilient sense of self-worth, and turn to our inner coach, not our inner critic. We will disengage from unhelpful thoughts and evoke more wholesome emotions and enrich ourselves with the love and approval we crave from others. We shall delve into the art of resting and replenishing rather than always striving. Ultimately, we'll cultivate gratitude and appreciate the simple things and create a weekly plan to keep cultivating self-compassion, resilience, and self-care well beyond these 10 days. Your heart already knows the way. Let’s take that journey, together.

Meet your Teacher

Lyndi Smith is a human being, nature lover, meditation teacher, and poet. Her main practices are loving kindness and “listening deeply” —listening to the nature outside of us, and the nature inside. She teaches meditation live and online, works for the charity Mind With Heart, Mindfulness Works Australia, Conscious Beginnings and regularly instructs at Rigpa Brisbane and Heart Insight. Lyndi has trained in both secular and traditional mindfulness and is qualified to teach meditation (BSY), Qi gong, and mindful self-compassion. Feeling burnt out, she started practicing 12 years ago. Since then, she has racked up about 7,000 hours of practice, including about a year in retreat. She has designed and facilitated well-being programmes for the Department of Education and Training, Kane Construction, Queensland Police Service, Teachers Health Fund, Computer Merchants, BHP, and WeWork. She has led meditation retreats in Australia, France, and the UK.

Lesson 1

Our Innate Love & Courage

In this session, we’ll define what we mean by self-compassion and resilience and learn why it's important to regularly tune in to our needs. We’ll learn a simple way to do this and the story of The King Of The Birds will help us reflect on how we support ourselves. We’ll journal about what courage, good-heartedness, and wellbeing really mean for us as individuals. Journaling exercise starts at 7:09.

Lesson 2

Connecting With Our Compassionate Selves

Today, we’ll learn about why it’s important to keep filling “our own cup” and how it’s often our conditioning that makes us feel undeserving or unworthy to keep striving. We’ll rest and replenish the nervous system and give our bodies an oxytocin boost through the meditation practices of caring touch and nourishing breathing. Meditation starts at 4:50.

Lesson 3

Feeling Good About Ourselves

In this session, we will learn why true happiness is not outside us, and why “soul food” is just as important as nutrition. We’ll use a visualisation meditation called "Sunshine" to connect with our inner strength and warm-heartedness. Meditation begins at 5:53.

Lesson 4

Words Of Encouragement

In this session, we will encourage kind and supportive self-talk and we will learn why we might be conditioned into having a critical inner voice. We’ll find ways to say the words we long to hear to ourselves and see if kind self-talk soothes our system as much as hearing kind words from others. Meditation begins at 4:30.

Lesson 5

Appreciating Ourselves & Our Life

In this session, we will learn about the benefits of self-appreciation, and the challenges to appreciating ourselves. We’ll learn why our brains are wired to search for problems. In the story of Kind Midas, we’ll learn why continually craving for more and more blocks our ability to appreciate the simple things in life. We’ll practice a gratitude and self-appreciation meditation. Meditation begins at 9:30.

Lesson 6

Appreciating Our Bodies

In this session, we’ll acknowledge any judgements we hold or difficulties our bodies have and explore focusing on what is working well and is in good health. We’ll also explore the science of self-comparison and why human nervous system is designed to “fit in”. We’ll have a go at a short body appreciation contemplation. Meditation begins at 6:16.

Lesson 7

Living A Life You Love Each Day

In this session, we will journal about different aspects of wellbeing and acknowledge the good we are already doing for ourselves. We’ll learn why taking time to absorb and “install” positive feelings is beneficial. We’ll also learn a short self-care practice, called a SNACK break, which we can use anytime, to check in on ourselves. Journaling begins at 7:30. Self-Care SNACK begins at 15:18.

Lesson 8

Embracing Our Unwanted Parts

In this session, we’ll learn how the wounded parts of ourselves are not solely our fault; that they are the result of our conditioning and were perhaps, at one point, useful ways to fit in or survive. However, as they are our responsibility, we’ll learn how to heal them by bringing the compassionate part of ourselves online to accept, embrace, and send them support. Meditation begins at 7:14.

Lesson 9

Soothing Social Anxiety & Self-Comparison

In this session, we will reflect on how the social brain is programmed to fit in and to overfocus on ways we might not. I’ll share my personal story of working with social anxiety and we’ll practice a meditation designed to help us feel safer to connect called "Just Like Me". Meditation begins at 6:35.

Lesson 10

Sanctuary Of Self-Compassion

In this session, we will celebrate everything we’ve been learning during the course. We will review and reflect on our experience, and choose which practices from the last 10 days we’d like to repeat. We’ll also practice a meditation that helps us imagine being in our own sanctuary of self-compassion, a safe space where we can rest in a sense of peace and ease. Meditation begins at 10:12.

Absolutely amazing. I am a huge procrastinator and I have this thing when I start I don’t finish, however I have managed to be productive and have a good routine in morning to be able to do this and another course I am working through. From this I take day 1, 4, 7 to continue my practices daily. 10 fingers is and still a favourite. Thank you so much for your course and your soothing voice. Nameste

I began this course because someone I know could really benefit from learning to feel better about themselves. I always read, do, practice something before recommending it. I found that there was actually a lot of information & activities that I could benefit from. I’ve been meditating for at least 15 years. This is one of the best exercises I’ve come across so far. I will definitely return. Obviously, very highly recommended!

I needed a self care top up and this really helped. It reminded of ways to look after myself and I particularly liked learning about the snack break which I've now been using. Thank you!
