Lesson 1

Plant Composition & Extraction

I believe it's important to know the nature of the products we use. A plant can have an external secretory structure (like the mint family) or an internal secretory structure (like ginger or oils derived from seeds). There are several methods to extract the essential oil from a plant: distillation, expression, enfleurage, solvent extraction or CO2 extraction.

Lesson 2

How To Use Aromatherapy

Using essential oils is extremely easy, it doesn’t require any special equipment. There are 3 ways to use essential oils: aromatically, topically and internally. If using topically, I recommend a 3% dilution, which corresponds to using about 9 drops of essential oils in a 10 ml bottle, the rest being a neutral, carrier oil.

Lesson 3

The Morphology Approach - Intuitive Use

The Morphology Approach encourages us to think of the plant material and the family of plants, and to also intuitively work with the energetics linked to the form and function of the plant and its role in its habitat. We can classify oils in 5 categories: citrus; flowers; woods/ roots/ resins; leaves and needles; spices and seeds.

Lesson 4

Stress & Anxious Feelings

For tension and contraction, and rigidity, maybe with some anger, oils that are calming and analgesic might help relieve that tension and bring softness and a soothing presence. If stress and anxious feelings have more of a tendency to bring you down, to drag you towards negative thinking and depression, you will find more support with oils that are uplifting and will assist you with moving in the right direction. If feeling scattered, in movement, keeping busy and overscheduling, oils that help us feel grounded and provide stability will be supportive. Let's look at specific examples.

Lesson 5

Joy & Motivation

Oils that are uplifting, promote optimism and help us take action will be supportive here. They will help move stagnant energy, connect with our inner child and get us going. Let's look at a few examples.

Lesson 6

Focus & Concentration

Essential oils are so amazing: they can become our allies, our support system, in every aspect of our lives, including when we need support focusing and concentrating on specific tasks. We'll use oils that are fresh, stimulating and revitalizing. Let's look at a few examples.

Lesson 7

Sleep

With disturbed sleep patterns, the reason is often an overactive or preoccupied mind and a tense body, and so what we need aromatic support which will relax the brain and the body. Let's look at a few examples.

Lesson 8

Sadness & Grief

I have a specific blend of oils that I recommend to work with for feelings of grief and sadness, and I do recommend to use these oils together rather than separately, because they have very different signatures and influences and will address the non-linear stages of grief and the complicated energetics of sadness. Let's dive in.

Lesson 9

Personal and Lineage Healing

I have experienced for myself some really profound shifts when doing intentional processing work and using the support of Aromatherapy. There are beautiful, supportive essential oils which energetics help our emotional healing journey, and in turn the healing of our family lineage. Let's look at a few examples.

Lesson 10

1st Chakra Aromatherapy

The first chakra is the foundation of the entire chakra system: it is our base, our roots, our solid foundation. It relates to our physical identity and our basic needs. The first chakra is all about feeling safe and secure, knowing we have a right to be where we are, feeling legitimate, and a right to Be, very simply, a right to exist. It relates to our ability to feel grounded, to relax and be still, to be comfortable in our bodies, and to have trust and faith in the world. Its demon, or shadow, is fear.

Lesson 11

2nd Chakra Aromatherapy

The second chakra is all about our ability to experience pleasure, to explore the world through our senses, as well as to nurture ourself and others. It relates to our capacity to be okay with feeling, and to be okay with the fact that we are emotional beings. It also relates to our ability to be creative and to our relationship with abundance in all areas of our lives. It manifests as our appetite for life, for food, for pleasure and joy. Obviously, because of its location, it’s also strongly linked to desire, passion and sexual pleasure. The demon, or the shadow, of the second chakra is guilt.

Lesson 12

3rd Chakra Aromatherapy

The third chakra is all about our right to act and our ego, not necessarily in a negative way, but more in the sense of "who I am as an individual" and what defines my identity. With the third chakra, we move into action, into manifesting and making things happen. It is also linked to our confidence and self esteem, in how we relate to the notion of control and responsibility. The third chakra is all about honoring the power within us (the fire, which is the element) and then using it to accomplish what we deeply desire, and to accomplish anything at all for that matter ! The demon of Manipura is shame, because shame is very related to the ego identity, to how acceptable we are exactly as we are.

Lesson 13

4th Chakra Aromatherapy

The fourth chakra is about our right to love and our right to be loved, so to offer but also to receive love. It relates to our ability to connect with others, to feel compassion and empathy, and receive these for ourselves as well. In the 7 chakra system, the 4th chakra is right in the middle, and so it is said to bridge the gap between the lower chakras, which are linked to our physical and emotional body, and the higher chakras, which are more about our intuitive and spiritual body. We can also think about it as bridging the individual with the collective, the “me, myself and I”, with “us”. The fourth chakra is also all about being at peace and feeling balanced within the world. The demon of the 4th chakra is grief.

Lesson 14

5th Chakra Aromatherapy

Vissudha chakra relates to our right to speak, to express ourselves through our voice. Depending on how balanced the energy of our fifth chakra is, we may find it easier or harder to communicate clearly, or even to communicate at all, to speak up and advocate for ourselves and what we really need, and it also relates to how able we are to put our feelings into words. On the receiving end, fifth chakra energy is visible in how well we are able to listen to others. If you think of expression, you can also think of creative expression, and Vissudha chakra is also about how we allow creative energy to flow through us and be expressed. The demon or shadow aspect of the fifth chakra is lies.

Lesson 15

6th Chakra Aromatherapy

The sixth chakra is our right to see and our ability to use our inner wisdom, our intuition, to guide our daily lives. This chakra also relates to our ability to self reflect and to see clearly what our patterns and limiting beliefs are. The demon of this chakra is illusion, or seeing, perceiving something that is not there.

Lesson 16

7th Chakra Aromatherapy

If the sixth chakra was our connection to the Soul, the deep inner knowing and wisdom, the 7th chakra is our connection to Spirit, our ability to think beyond the material world, to connect to others and recognize our shared humanity. This chakra is all about realizing, accepting and honoring that we are divine beings beyond our physical envelope, and that through this universal identity, we are all connected. Sahasrara chakra relates to our right to know and to learn, and to allow the world to be our teacher.
