Lesson 1

What is IFS? & The Basic Assumptions Of The Model

What is IFS? IFS stands for Internal Family Systems. It's a type of therapy that sees a person's mind as made up of multiple parts, kind of like a family inside your head. Each part has its own views and feelings, and they all react to different life events. Basic Assumptions of the Model Everyone Has a Self: This Self is the core of who you are, full of healing qualities like compassion and clarity. Parts Aren't What They Seem: The parts may seem weird or harmful, but they're trying to help in their own way. We All Have Burdens: These are painful experiences or emotions that parts carry. They can make parts act out. Parts Can Heal: With the Self leading, parts can let go of their burdens and become healthy and positive. Change Is Natural: Healing is not forced; it happens naturally when the Self is in charge and parts trust this leadership.

Lesson 2

Self Energy And The 8 Cs

In this lesson we're exploring the concept of 'Self' and 'Self-energy,' focusing on their roles a crucial point in IFS. The 'Self' is defined by qualities like the five P's (presence, patience, playfulness, persistence) and the eight C's (curiosity, creativity, calm, clarity, caring, connectedness, confidence, compassion), which help identify when someone is Self-led and effectively engaging with internal parts and others.

This was a really good 👍 introduction to the IFS model and the meditation was very useful to get to see some of my trailheads in action. Drawing a representation of each of them on paper really helped to be able to identify them and appreciate these parts for what they have been trying so hard to do for me, albeit not always in the most constructive ways! I can already feel the compassion for myself emerging.

An okay introduction to the model; meditation was a little too fast paced and hard to get into. I'll be giving his other tracks a try anyways but this course left a bit to be desired.

Very good and I like the guiding, and being able to stop when necessary. It’s more focusing than trying to do it from the book.

Good information if you have a little knowledge of IFS to start. It might be helpful to talk about types of parts /definitions in the first lesson... If I had not already had a little background, heard some of the terms such as exiles, firefighters, protectors before, I think I may have been confused. I really liked the discussion about the "self" - the explanation and the differents terms that are often used to describe the self were very helpful in getting a better picture. Also, same with the descriptions and examples of the "C's" - it made things make more sense to me. I'm looking forward to listening to more of your meditations and courses.

The meditation in part 3 was rushed. Having done IFS work before I was surprised that “multiple trailheads” concept was introduced. Uncovering the first emotion, trailhead, part, etc. can be both traumatic and unsettling for someone who hasn’t been properly prepared. I wonder how many people listening to this for the first time will be negatively impacted.
