If your mind or body feels overwhelmed right now,
This short practice will help you return to a place of safety within yourself.
For the next few minutes,
Nothing else needs your attention,
Just allowing yourself this moment to settle.
And if focusing on the breath feels too much right now,
That's okay.
Simply listen to my voice and allowing your body to rest wherever you are.
Take a slow breath in and gently breathe out.
Allow the shoulders to soften,
The jaw to relax and the muscles around the eyes to ease.
Nothing needs to be forced,
Just allowing the body to slow down.
And in this moment just notice where you are,
Just look around the space that you're in.
Feel the surface beneath your body supporting you.
And if any area of the body feels uncomfortable to focus on,
That's okay.
You can simply notice the areas that feel neutral or more relaxed.
And if it feels comfortable,
Let your eyes rest on one object in the room,
Just something simple and familiar.
This is reminding the nervous system you are here.
Take another easy breath in and allow the breath out to be slow and easy.
And if it feels supportive right now,
You might begin to imagine a place where you feel safe and comfortable.
This could be a place you've been before or somewhere your mind creates.
Perhaps somewhere in nature or any place where your body feels at ease.
And if no place comes to mind,
That's completely okay.
You can simply stay with the feeling of being supported and present with my voice or connect to the surface beneath you,
Holding you.
If you do have a safe place in your mind,
Just take a moment to picture it.
Notice what it looks like,
The colors,
The light,
The space around you.
How does it feel to be there?
The ground beneath you,
The sense of calm in this place,
And this place can hold you exactly as you are with nothing you need to do.
Just allowing yourself to rest.
On your next breath out,
Imagine settling a little more deeply into this place.
Feeling supported,
Feeling safe enough to let the body soften.
And if the mind wanders for a moment,
That's okay.
Just gently bring your attention back to this place or the feeling of the support beneath you.
Take a moment to notice any small shifts in your body.
Perhaps the breath is a little easier.
Shoulders a little more softer.
The mind a little quieter.
Even the smallest shift is your nervous system beginning to settle.
This place is always available to you,
And you can return here with a single breath.
One slow exhale.
One moment of remembering that you are supported.
Begin to notice the space around you again.
The room you are in,
The sounds nearby.
And for a few more moments,
Simply allow yourself to remain here,
Breathing slowly,
Easily.
Feeling supported and letting your body continue to settle in its own time.
