Lesson 3
What Boundaries Are Not
In this lesson, we explore what healthy boundaries are not and look at some common behaviors that can easily be mistaken for boundaries. You’ll learn the difference between a boundary and an attempt to control or manipulate someone, as well as the difference between a boundary and a personal preference. We’ll also look at why cutting someone out of your life or building rigid walls around yourself isn’t necessarily healthy boundary-setting. Through practical examples, you’ll learn how unhealthy or unclear “boundaries” can be reframed in a healthier way. Finally, we’ll explore situations in which it may be better to pause and not set a boundary until you are coming from a calmer, clearer and more compassionate place.

We’ll explore how family values, family dynamics and the boundaries modeled for us while growing up can shape our own patterns.
