
Prelude To A Peaceful Sleep

This is a relaxation aid to steer you gently into a peaceful sleep with some soothing words and peaceful thoughts. We all need a little help with that sometimes and having a reassuring voice speaking softly to us can help us detach from our worries and slide into a peaceful world of dreams. Suitable for bedtime or for snuggling you back to sleep if you wake up in the night.

It's nice to go to sleep with some relaxing background thoughts and words.
I'm just going to speak softly to you as you settle into sleep,
Offering you some relaxing and reassuring thoughts as you drift off.
You'll probably hardly notice yourself drifting away from my words.
You may not remember when you wake up anything I said.
You may not listen to very much of what I have to say and that is exactly what meditating ourselves into sleep is.
It's finding a peaceful gateway of thinking and breathing and settling in that allows that beautiful delicious shift in our mind body that takes us away and under.
However you're feeling right now,
It gives a chance for your weary bones to release,
For any tense places in your muscles to let go.
And you may well feel as you lie down and become aware of your body again that your heart is working hard.
It's been working hard for you all day in the way that it's beating now.
Whether your heart is thumping,
Is speedy or is slower and more settled,
It really doesn't matter.
You're not called to do anything at all.
Release any worries about that and just feel what's there,
Feel what is with you in your body now.
And welcome it and feel yourself surrendering into whatever sensations are there.
Feel the way fatigue is moving through your body.
The fingers of fatigue are like a massage,
Sometimes on the inside a thrumming feeling.
You can breathe into that and be with it.
There's that lovely feeling in your being,
In you welcoming rest now.
Thank you.
And now enjoy your breathing.
Oh,
You have space to breathe again now.
Any breath you've been holding back,
Not really juicing out during the day.
Now you have all the time in the world to breathe.
Breathing with yourself and the sensations in your body.
Feeling all the weight that you have been holding,
Letting go into your bed.
Let the mattress have it,
Let the pillows have it,
Let all the earth underneath your bed.
Take every single particle of weight from you,
Let go.
Let your thoughts be there,
Impressions,
Mini movies or nothing.
You don't mind what's there,
It's all natural,
Natural now.
Enjoy your body as it gives way to relaxation.
The thrumming,
The fatigue,
The little aches here and there and the releasing of all of that.
That's what you're feeling now.
And enjoy your breathing space,
Enjoy your breath.
Here are some peaceful thoughts for you to drift away with.
The day is done.
It's over and you did well.
You showed up and you did your best.
And life touched you today in many ways,
Big and small.
And any way it touched you,
That's okay,
That's another day of life.
There's nothing more to think about that.
The day is gone.
The velvety night is here.
And in the morning you'll wake up fresh.
It is a truth and a peaceful truth I'm reminding you of now,
That that expression,
You'll feel better after a night's sleep or go to sleep on it.
Wow,
How true is that?
I've lived quite a while now and that has been true to me since I was a little girl and is as true to me now as an older woman.
Whenever I get myself into a pickle or a tangle or I'm just too tired to think clearly,
I remind myself that in the morning things will look and feel completely different because all my body needs is rest,
Just like when I was a child or a baby.
However old you are now listening to this,
Nothing's really changed since when you were little.
Your body had had all it wanted to take and was ready for a good refreshing sleep,
To be tucked up,
To tuck yourself down.
Maybe when you were little you had a warm drink and a story.
It's nice being told a story as you snuggle down to sleep.
And then your head filled with its own stories,
Its own dreamy places.
And off you drifted and had your dreams,
Joined that beautiful inner life for a while,
Your own world,
Where nothing else needed you and you could be yourself.
And then when you woke in the morning,
It was like you'd walked through a magic doorway.
Everything felt different and good again and you were ready,
Ready for another day for life to touch you and you it.
The sleeping part was the magic part.
The bridge between one day to the next,
A magic bridge.
The sleeping part took you under and inward into realms and realms of inner space.
Where you were renewed as if by those magic fountains of renewal,
Where your energies,
Your cells were made healthy,
Were rested and reenergised.
Were cleansed and brought back to brightness again.
And all the while you were in a magic place enjoying yourself.
A magical retreat from everything on the outside to all the special magic realms of the inside and the adventures you have there.
Some you are aware of and might remember fragments of when you wake up.
And others you are there.
Something happens to you that is good.
But you don't remember what.
You only know you wake up feeling better.
This is your magic world of sleep.
This is your bridge between realities.
This is your healing bridge.
And we enter there with peace.
Peace in our hearts and peace on our minds.
Peace in our bodies.
So that when we wake up we can remember and feel again that peace just by calling it in.
Another peaceful thought is that you are loved.
That there are people and maybe animals in your life who love you unconditionally.
You don't have to prove anything to them or perform for them or push yourself,
You can just be yourself.
And that is another peaceful thought.
That you can just be yourself.
You don't have to try.
You don't have to become anything else.
You can just be exactly who you are right now in any moment.
That is exactly what you are meant to be.
No one asked any more of you.
A bee is happy being a bee.
A flower is happy being a flower.
The ocean never dreams of becoming the mountain and the mountain never dreams of becoming the forest.
They know who they are,
They know their place and they revel in it.
Have you ever watched the ocean?
Really with your whole mind and soul and body?
Felt the ocean as you watched it.
Its power and its freedom.
Sometimes it's a wild ride it's having and it looks like it's enjoying the crashing of the waves and how high those waves can be.
And sometimes there is a rhythm of slow sweet drawing to and from the shore.
Crystals of light dancing and playing on the ripples and the waves.
And again as if the ocean is so in love with itself.
It's simply so in love with being the ocean.
No matter what form it takes,
Its power is in loving being itself.
And when we watch and feel the ocean we feel that love.
And what a wonderful memory we get.
How it feels when we are ourselves.
Loving ourselves no matter what our energy is doing.
Loving ourselves when we play.
Loving ourselves when we explore.
Loving ourselves when we are working and something is capturing our passion.
And loving ourselves when we are idle,
Relaxing,
Thinking of nothing much and doing nothing much.
Loving ourselves when we are dreaming.
Loving ourselves when we are creating.
Loving ourselves when we are climbing high.
Loving ourselves when we are diving deep.
Loving ourselves when we are with others.
Loving ourselves when we are alone.
All the shapes,
The movements and the dances of us held in this expansive love.
This simplicity of loving being with nothing added on top.
Being at peace with being without needing to add.
Another peaceful thought is that we have things in our life that give us pleasure and make us feel good.
And there are so many things.
The books we love to read.
The music that fills our body with delicious feelings.
The places we love in nature.
The places we love that are inside the spaces,
The rooms.
Things that make us feel good.
Like our garden.
Like our kitchen.
Like our pets.
Like a day spent with friends.
Or an evening on our own with a glass of wine under the stars.
Like a warm drink on a cold day.
Cold drink on a hot day.
The pleasure of sand between our toes or digging our fingers into the earth as we plant seeds.
The uplifting pleasure of a beautiful fragrance.
Jasmine.
Basil.
Mint.
The cosiness.
The warmth of a smell of something delicious cooking on the stove and welcoming us in.
The delight of sunshine kissing our skin.
The caress of a breeze when we are warm and need a little cooling.
The warmth of a fire when we are cold and need a little warming.
How life has it,
My friends,
That we are always nurtured.
Always nourished.
Always in healing.
Healing is available for us.
Always being tended to by life if we look with our hearts for what feels good and honours our being with sensations of wellness and delight.
Of wonder and thrill.
What a journey.
What a delicious invitation.
This being we have.
And how we can love it and feel its peace spreading inside of us.
May the blessing of peace be abundant in your body and in your world.
May peace be brought to you and may you bring peace.
Cherish this magical time.
Drift off and dream.
