This is a meditation to support you in a time when you're in-between,
When you're feeling a little lost,
In a moment of transition in your life.
You're not where you were,
And yet you're not yet where you want to be.
And perhaps you're foraging for faith to support you in this time in-between.
In today's session,
We're going to give this time to the heart to hold,
To come in close to ourselves and to trust that our heart can help us find a good way forward.
There is magic in the whispers of the heart.
It can give us good guidance in ways that our mind just can't work it out.
So I invite you to rest down,
To get comfortable.
You do not have to sit up super straight and rigid and be poised for practice.
Come sit with me.
Rest down and be in the in-between.
Be between here and there.
Be with how your life is right now.
As you sit,
Let your eyelids drop and come into your inner world.
Drop your attention a little down into your body.
Often when we're in-between,
We're trying to work things out.
We're up in our mind,
Trying to see how it will all turn out.
And sometimes,
Dear one,
We can't.
We can't figure or fathom it out.
We simply have to live through it and let things unfold in their own right timing.
So just for today,
Let's sit together in this place of in-between.
There are truly times in life when we are betwixt and between.
Between what was and what will be.
At these times,
It can seem that uncertainty is all around us.
Our future can't be fathomed,
And our past has in some ways already gone,
Although the gifts of it will always be with us.
These are the times we have to come home to our heart.
To that sweet well of feeling that lives within us.
To the companion of our soulful sweet selves,
As we accompany ourselves through this journey in the unknown.
Soften your belly,
Deepen your breathing,
And drop down even more.
Invite yourself in close to yourself.
That's one of those sentences that doesn't make sense to the mind,
But you can kind of feel it in your body when it happens.
Maybe your shoulders drop some.
Maybe the armor on your back softens.
Welcome yourself home,
Here,
To sitting with yourself in this moment,
In this uncertainty,
In this unknown.
Life is a peculiar and paradoxical place.
We can literally create miracles,
Move mountains,
And pull off unimaginable feats.
We can dream and dare and do and create new and wise and wonderful ways.
There are times we are lit up by our lives and can make wonderful things happen.
And there are also times when life like seems to knock us off course.
At times it can feel like life is a juggernaut that drove past us,
Turns us around,
And leaves us upside down in the dust,
Wondering what just happened.
For sure,
Sometimes things don't always turn out the way we wanted or the way we're expecting.
We have to find a way to do a good journey.
We can't control life,
Nor can we just wallow around in uncontrollable,
Oh,
I can't do anything.
That's victim thinking.
We can do a lot,
And sometimes we can't.
I'm aware I'm speaking in paradoxes.
And yet this is the place I want to address today.
The times when it's mysterious,
The times when it's hard to hold,
The times when you literally can't see how it's all going to unfold,
When perhaps you feel scared or sad or just uncertain as to what on earth happens.
I want to reassure you,
You do not have to see the whole of the journey today.
We do not take a journey of a million miles by knowing what mile 9048 looks like.
We do a good journey by taking the one next step,
And the one after that,
And the step after that,
And by being present and passionate and prayerful for each of those steps that we take.
We do a good journey through life by accompanying ourselves through it,
By not being disassociated or lost,
But by staying in close to our own heart,
By staying open to possibilities,
By staying anchored in our sense of wonder.
So today,
Honor the power that you have,
All the actions you can take,
All the resources and the connections you do have,
And also honor your powerlessness.
The things that we just can't see that will happen,
That we can't figure out.
And really the only way of relating between those two is coming to trust in ourselves,
Coming to trust that we can do a good journey however it goes.
We can learn new skills,
We can figure out new wise ways,
We can do what we can with what we have,
Retrain,
Reframe,
Resource,
Retake and remake.
And also,
Life does what it does.
The heart is our secret ally here.
The heart is the thing that can hold these peculiar paradoxes.
As you listen,
Place a hand on your heart.
And yes,
I'm speaking about placing your hand on your chest where your biological heart is.
And I'm also speaking about a metaphor much deeper than that.
The wise heart within you,
The heart that is aflame with your own life force,
The heart that knows and whispers good guidance to you,
The heart of the matter,
The love that lives within you,
The joy that lives within you,
The heart that feels everything that makes you most human.
Touch into that heart too as you feel your hand on your chest.
The heart will give us good guidance.
Our feelings can show us wise ways and we can work with our mind to follow up with those feelings.
Sometimes the heart can hold immense pain that cuts us so deeply.
Sometimes we have to surrender that we did our best and that it didn't work out the way we wanted.
Sometimes we simply have to submit to the way that the world is.
And the heart is our ally in that too.
The quickest way through healing something is by feeling it.
So acknowledge what your heart is holding.
Acknowledge the secret truths that your heart has held and is holding right now in this place of in-between.
Acknowledge all your heart is holding.
Well,
Perhaps you feel lost and a little scared in this moment of life transition.
We can speak to our heart.
Hey heart,
Stay close.
Don't let me get lost in my mind.
Give me good guidance.
Let me hear you.
Please heart,
Stay open.
Let me stay loving.
Let me stay in a good inquiry into this moment.
Into the mystery of my life.
Let your heart hold the questions you are moving with.
I promise it will do a way better job than your mind can.
Let your troubles rest in the heart.
Come home to your heart.
The world is swirling and changing.
And in this moment of uncertainty in your life,
Much is likely moving.
And yet here in the center of us,
There's the heart.
A life force.
A sense of soulfulness,
Maybe even spiritual heart,
That we can rest into,
That we can rely on.
The truest home that we have.
A sense of ourself as being heartful and whole and holy.
So let's sit together for a few minutes.
See what your heart wants to say to you.
What's moving through it?
Give your heart some space to speak.
So as we finish up this session,
Let your heart give thanks.
I know at times the journey can be grueling,
And at other times it can be amazing.
Let life touch you.
Let life move you.
We're most human when we're impacted by our own lives,
By the world around us,
When we let ourselves feel this human journey fully.
Take note of your tenderness and give thanks for the fact you have a heart that feels.
For the fact that you can find softness in this moment of transition.
For the fact that you're turning towards yourself,
Turning towards life,
And choosing to live this day well,
Even amidst all the uncertainty,
All that is unknown.
Give thanks.
Give thanks for this life and its peculiar paradoxes.
Give thanks for your life,
Even if it doesn't look the way that you wanted it to.
Give thanks for this day,
For this ability to sit and feel and heal.
So I thank you,
Dear one.
I thank you for your practice and your presence,
And for your commitment to showing up to your soul.
I invite you to come back to your heart over and over whenever you need to,
To trust that your heart has got you,
Support you,
And that you have got this.
You're doing so well,
Dear one.
Thank you for your practice,
And I wish you unexpected good grace today.
