A warm welcome to you.
So often when something feels hard,
Painful or challenging.
We distract ourselves,
Push it down,
Analyze it endlessly,
Or become so fused with the feeling that it seems to define everything.
This practice is designed to shift this dynamic.
By helping you grow your capacity to meet life as it is.
Without collapsing.
Numbing out,
Or being thrown around by every emotional wave.
Because real wellbeing comes from being able to say yes to it all.
Not only the parts we really wanted or planned for.
So beginning gently by taking a look around you.
And noticing a few elements of your environment that reveal some basic goodness.
Perhaps some natural light streaming in.
The feeling of a rug beneath your feet.
A photo,
A piece of art.
And now see if you can widen your gaze,
Your awareness.
To take in the energy of the room.
A more generalized feeling of warmth or safety.
This simple observation whispering to your nervous system that you're safe enough in this moment.
And when you're ready,
Closing the eyes and settling in.
Noticing your body as it sits or lies here.
Supported.
Propelled by gravity.
And before we turn towards anything difficult,
Taking a moment to sense the wider space of awareness around you.
Your body breathing.
The ebb and flow of sensations within your body.
Sounds around you.
Light shade colours moving across your closed eyes.
The room holding you.
Awareness itself already here.
Like the ocean that can hold many waves.
Your warm-hearted awareness can be just as expansive.
And now from this grounded place allowing something in your life that feels hard right now to come to mind.
Choosing something moderate,
Not too overwhelming.
A challenge at work,
A concern for your child or parent.
A difficult conversation or relationship dynamic.
A lingering uncertainty.
Letting the situation appear in whatever way it comes.
Images,
Feelings,
A memory,
A sense in the body.
And as you bring this challenge gently into awareness,
Seeing if you can identify what feels most difficult or tender about it.
This doesn't need to be logical or to make sense from the mind.
Trust whatever is emerging.
They're noticing what's happening in your body.
Perhaps there's activation.
Heaviness.
Tightness.
Pressure.
Quietly naming what you notice.
And perhaps noticing any emotions that are present too.
Is there fear?
Sadness.
Anger.
.
.
Worry.
Disappointment.
Naming these as well.
Now rather than fixing,
Avoiding or pushing away.
Seeing if you can allow these sensations and emotions to be here,
To come and go.
You're not asking them to stay forever.
You're simply making room.
Here in this moment your awareness is wider than any one sensation or emotion.
And noticing if anything shifts naturally when it's met rather than resisted.
Now gently directing your awareness into the centre of your chest,
Your heart space.
Taking a few slow,
Smooth breaths into the centre of your chest.
And seeing if you can sense a part of you that has been touched by this challenge.
Perhaps the part of you who feels responsible for everyone.
The part of you who fears the future.
The part of you who worries about letting others down or being judged.
The part of you who simply feels tired.
Trusting in whatever you notice.
And letting this part of you know that it belongs here.
And you might gently ask this part of you.
What is it you most need from me right now?
And in your own way offering this vulnerable place what it needs.
Perhaps placing a hand on the heart.
Offering care from the wisest part of you.
To the hurting part of you.
And now over the next few breaths imagining this warmth and care filling your whole being.
With each in-breath sensing this energy weaving through your bones,
Your organs,
Blood,
Every cell in your body.
Creating a new baseline of emotional resilience.
And noticing how it feels to know that you have the capacity to meet what hurts with care and steadiness.
Awareness coming back into your body.
Feeling the surface beneath you.
The room around you.
And when you're ready,
Opening your eyes.
You might like to save this practice so that you can come back to it next time you face a challenge and want to meet it with wisdom,
Insight and clarity.
