Welcome to your session today.
This is a session,
A practice in grounding.
This practice will be best done if you are sitting with your feet firmly planted on the ground.
Choose a chair,
Perhaps from your kitchen,
Your dining room or your office.
Somewhere that you can feel the contact between your body,
The chair,
Your feet and the floor.
As we begin,
Take your seat,
Close your eyes gently and rest your hands on your lap.
Gently taking in a breath and allowing yourself to just melt down into the surface that you're sitting on.
There is no particular way to breathe today.
Let your breath come and go as it naturally would,
Harnessing you here in the present moment.
If at any time you feel distracted,
Bring your awareness back to your breath.
Feel the gentle inhale on the edges of your nostrils,
The coolness of that air.
As you exhale,
Feel your belly start to come down,
Pushing that air out.
Feel how that air changes to be warm.
In and out,
Flowing gently,
Flowing naturally today.
Today is a process of grounding,
Of washing away fears,
Letting go of expectations,
Of grounding you into the here and now.
Begin by noticing the contact that the backs of your shoulders make with the chair.
Spreading that awareness down across your shoulder blades,
Down your spine.
Allowing all muscles,
All of the tissues of your back to be completely supported by the back of the chair.
As you draw your attention to your seat,
Feeling as though there is a heavy sandbag sitting on your lap,
Pushing you down and keeping you grounded.
There is something truly comforting about feeling the weight of something on top of you.
Feeling the contact across your lap,
The backs of your hip bones pressing down to the seat of the chair.
Feeling the contact that the backs of your legs make with the surface of the chair.
As you come to your knees,
Feeling the crease,
The bend,
The point at which your knees meet with the edge of the chair.
The bottoms of your legs growing heavy.
Feeling the weight of your body pressing down.
Your awareness spreading down and coming to rest in your feet.
It is here where the true grounding happens.
Just for a moment,
I invite you to imagine as if your feet are growing roots.
Those roots anchoring you down into the earth,
Holding you firm,
Keeping you grounded and keeping you safe.
With each breath that you take,
The roots grow down.
They spread.
They become enriched in this beautiful,
Vibrant,
Nutrient-rich soil.
Breathing still and letting them grow deeper.
Deeper down into the core of the earth.
A beautiful ball of golden light.
As your roots reach that ball of light,
They start to grow around it.
Wrapping themselves around.
Some of your roots may be even penetrating the ball.
Growing warm.
Filling themselves with that spectacular energy.
Refueling every ounce of who you are.
Spend a bit of time here breathing.
With each breath,
The energy growing stronger,
Growing warmer,
Traveling up those roots through the earth,
Through the soil and coming to the bottoms of your feet.
As that golden light reaches the bottoms of your feet,
You feel ignited.
You feel the warmth that has traveled up from the core of the earth through your roots.
The warmth begins to travel up through your feet,
Into your ankles,
Your calves and your shins,
Your knees,
Your thighs and your hamstrings.
Your hips and your pelvis.
Traveling up through your core and your back,
Spreading down each shoulder,
Each arm and coming to rest in the palm of your hands.
The light spreading its warmth back up through your arms,
Your neck,
Your jaw,
All of the tiny muscles through your face.
And finally out through the crown of your head.
Suspending you between earth and sky in this glorious warm golden light,
Grounded and safe.
There is no room for fear.
No room for expectation.
No room for doubt,
Sadness,
Guilt.
Here in this golden light,
You are safe and you are home.
You are held here with love and compassion so deep that it draws its power and strength from the core of this earth.
Bathe in it.
Allow it to wrap itself around you in its blanket of warmth.
Rooted in the earth,
Held with love and compassion.
Taking a deep breath in.
And as you began melting into the back of the chair,
Starting to draw your awareness back to your body,
Feeling the floor beneath your feet,
The edge of the chair behind your knees,
The seat of the chair beneath your sits bones,
The weight of your pelvis and the contact that your back makes with the back of the chair.
With a final soft breath.
Opening the windows of your eyes but keeping your gaze down towards the floor.
Letting the light start to trickle in.
Bringing you back to the present moment.
A moment in time that has changed for you.
Here you are safe.
And here you are home.
