Unique Tools For Exploring The Depth & Breadth Of Mindfulness

With Stephen Davies

On one level, mindfulness is very simple - we learn to be more present. But then, when you consider that the whole of our experience has only, and can only ever, happen in the present moment, then mindfulness reaches into all areas of our life. This course will explore novel ways to approach mindfulness practice and what we can discover and realise when we open ourselves up more to the present moment.

Lesson 1

The Basics Of Mindfulness & Setting The Foundation For Your Practice

Before we explore the full range of mindfulness practices and insights contained in this course, it will serve us well to make sure we are getting the basics right. This will provide the introductory knowledge required for the deeper and more subtle aspects we will develop later. What is mindfulness, how do I do it, and why does it work? In this session, we explore the five essential elements of mindfulness and the four steps of mindfulness. We will also look at the idea of having a foreground and a background to our awareness and how this can help us move away from the idea of having to make effort to focus or concentrate during our mindfulness practice. The second part of the session takes this idea further and describes how developing this concept of the foreground and the background of awareness can lead to more profound experiencces.

In this session, we cover the following topics: - Treating our thoughts just like anything else - Don’t make your thoughts the enemy - Why trying to stop your thoughts doesn’t work - How big is your mind? - Maximising mindful mental activity - Whole concept thinking

Lesson 4

The Subtleties Of Mindfulness Practice

After practising mindfulness for a while, it starts to become clear how subtle it can be. Eventually we realise that we are teaching orselves how to be, how to enter into a state of being. This state of being is about accepting the flow of the present moment without interfering with it. This session will look at exactly how we can do that. The session includes: - Mindfulness, t’ai chi, and relaxation - Three levels of presence - Neither this nor that

Session two was the only one of true significance. While all was okay with little tidbits here and there, it was mostly that outside of session two that discussed thoughts emerging during meditation.

A very different mindfulness meditation course as it is philosophical, theoretical, intellectual and yet still pragmatic.

Really loved this course! So many parts of the explanations of mindfulness I related to! One part that was especially helpful was the explanation of how people with differing personalities (more extroverted vs introverted or more analytical vs emotional) may be drawn to different types of meditation. This is the case with my boyfriend and I, and I am looking forward to re-listening to this course with him. It will help us both understand ourselves and one another better … and why we can have challenges in feeling drawn to / comfortable with one another’s meditation approach! Thank you for creating and sharing this course!! 🙏🙏🙏

Inspiring, encouraging, thought-provoking, densely packed with information. Loved all of it and will listen again.

Visualization as an “escape” felt offensive to me. It is a critical component or method practice to co-create a desired experience. As we learn more in may, in fact, be measurable as a quantum leap. It felt like narrow minded thinking or “contempt prior to investigation to me.” The rest of the course I found yo be immensely helpful.

A very welcome perspective about mindfulness and meditation. Every other course I've done has been a series of meditations, this is different. Stephen seems to have a gift for describing what meditation is in a straight-forward and personal way. I found that very valuable.

Thank you Stephen, I really enjoyed this course. You are succinct and clear. You don’t add all the mumbo jumbo which can clutter things up. The tools and teachings from your experience have clearly come with much dedicated practice. Thank you for sharing them in this course!

I listened to your course over the past week alongside a handful of Eckhart Tolle talks and Joe Dispenza meditations. It feels like my mind and my body got a little upgrade. I don't think I would've understood as much nor meditated as deeply this week without your insights. Considering thoughts as autonomic was an aha! moment for me. Especially loved your final message about not focusing on fitting in. Thank you! ☺️🙏🏼
